Cat Sitting in Sacramento, CA

I have had as many as 6 cats at one time. Although there are certain traits they have in common, they are all quite individual and need to be appreciated for their own behaviors. I once was given a cat who was deemed to be impossible to socialize. She had been abused and would strike out if your hand or foot got near her, but not your face. We gave her the space she needed and slowly acclimated her to the entire space and never reproached her for her attitude. This went on for three months. Then, one day I came home from work, she was on the kitchen counter. I went up to her and put my face up to her and said, 'Hello', then went and sat on the sofa. She jumped down, climbed into my lap, stood on her hind legs and threw her arms around my neck... I have had as many as 6 cats at one time. She jumped down, climbed into my lap, stood on her hind legs and threw her arms around my neck. I have never had a cat do that before or since and from that day was as sweet and as loving as any cat could be. And to this day, I remain so moved and grateful for her trust and affection.
I am widowed and cats have become my family and best friends. I almost never have to look for cats, they usually find and rescue me. Currently, there is only one cat in my life. He is a feral that has been living at the complex for the past few years, which technically does not make him 'mine', but he has been spending most of his time with Lefty and myself for almost a year. My poor Lefty passed a couple of weeks ago from cancer and I would be completely bereft without Oscar's companionship. I am currently working on my retirement and have a great deal of flexibility in my schedule.
I have experience with handling medications, oral and topical and delivering subcutaneous fluids.
I have been vaccinated for Covid, but I intend to continue to use a mask and clean with soap, water, hydrogen peroxide and hand sanitizer. I have over 140 clients, 78 of whom are repeat clients.

Learn More About Gregg

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

Almost five years and 130 clients! 74 of whom are repeat clients. I can almost never be busy enough to enjoy their company.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

Getting to hang with all the different personalities. They can be very therapeutic and amusing to get to know and interact with.

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

Hard to pick just one. There are a few where the kitties are such love sponges that you hate to leave. It's very rewarding when one of the stranger danger kitties reveals their true affectionate nature.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

Oscar. He was part of a colony of feral cats that were born in the parking lot of the country complex we reside in. He was considered un-adoptable, but he adopted me and we have been together for almost four years. I don't have to find cats, they find me. He is loyal, affectionate, playful and VERY astute.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

Getting as much detail up front and being as thorough as one can during the meet and greet and hopefully getting an actual encounter with the four- footed boss.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

Get firm information regarding access and cat habits regarding hiding or dashing. Giving them the individual attention or space that they fur baby needs to weather the absence of their family.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Always. Being widowed, I only have Oscar to share my days with. The important thing is that the fur babies are as comfortable as possible.

What is your favorite cat toy?

Wands or anything they like to chase. I find actual physical contact (much skritching) and association with food are the strongest aspects of bonding under the limited circumstances.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

Move and speak softly and give them all the space they need. Never get too insitant about trying to establish a relationship before they are ready.

Gregg was great. Took special care with my special needs cat, and sent pictures and updates on all of my cats daily.

Would not use again. Gregg would not stay the full time that I paid for. For a 45 minute visit he left after 13 minutes. Value for money was not there. He also left trash on the counter which is strange instead of throwing it away in the trash can.

I’ve had Gregg before and he was great as always. One of my cats is shy but she came out when he came. I like that he sends a couple pictures of them. He cleans the litter and rinsed their dishes. I’ll definitely request him again.

Gregg took great care of my two cats, even ensuring the "mad dasher" stayed inside where he belonged. He was really good about daily check-ins, complete with an update and pictures. I very much appreciated it and knew my kitties were in good hands!

I hired Gregg to watch my cat while I was away, specifically booking 45-minute visits so my cat could get proper attention and care. Unfortunately, Gregg rarely stayed anywhere near the scheduled time. One day he was here for only 4 minutes! when I asked about it he said that it was because of parking. I asked Gregg if he had Zelle or Venmo to help with parking but he said he did not and instead downloaded an app to park. Each visit came with a blurry, low-quality photo that didn’t show me anything about how my cat was actually doing. I expected someone who would spend time with my pet, ensure she was safe, and follow through on what I paid for. Instead, I feel like I wasted my money and my trust. I would not recommend this sitter to anyone who actually wants reliable, attentive pet care. 1 star as it’s the minimum and a 2nd star because my cat isn’t dead.

Once again Gregg did a great job looking after our kitten. We got visit updates with pictures and we could tell he was really attentive to our kitten’s wants and needs. It’s great having someone you can trust your beloved pet with when traveling.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Sacramento cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $30.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
