Cat Sitting in Santa Monica, CA

I have lived with cats my entire life until a few years ago. Since I don't have any of my own right now, I would love to be able to spend some time with kitties and help people out at the same time. I know how difficult it is to find someone you trust to care for your beloved cat, and I'm happy to chat or do a meet and greet to see if you think I'm a good fit for them. Since I don't have any of my own right now, I would love to be able to spend some time with kitties and help people out at the same time. I know how difficult it is to find someone you trust to care for your beloved cat, and I'm happy to chat or do a meet and greet to see if you think I'm a good fit for them. I have a lot experience and love for felines and since I work from home, my flexible schedule allows me to drop in at any time during the day.

I have been caring for cats for decades and I’m used to all different behaviors: shy, sweet, playful, feisty, grouchy... I love them all!

I have experience with senior cats and administering medications, including pills, liquids, transdermals, subcutaneous injections and fluids.

Learn More About Heather

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I started cat sitting for my neighbors as a teenager, many decades ago, and still do it today. The first cat I cared for was name Francesca (aka Frank). She lived next door and she was the most beautiful long haired calico, but also meanest cat in the world. Despite her hissing and spitting, I still loved her, and spent time with her, I just respected her boundaries! I have taken care of all types of cats, from aloof cats that hid, to snuggle bugs that sat on my chest and made biscuits. Each one is has its own unique personality.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I enjoy cat sitting because I truly love cats and being around them. I love everything about them... the way they look, the way they feel, the way move, how they can be lazy, friendly, frisky, mysterious. Since I don’t have any of my own cats right now, being able to care for other people's kitties brings me joy. While I love petting and playing with cats, I know not every cat wants physical interaction and I'm happy to just be in the room with them and talk to them. Yes of course I talk to cats!

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

My favorite cat sitting job is for my mother’s 4 cats who are all rescued ferals. I have cared for them since they were kittens. Those three tuxedos and one tawny tabby are the cutest, quirkiest little weirdos and I love them so much!

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I don't have cats right now but my last two were gray tabby siblings named Sissy (aka Binny, aka Tippy Toe) and Smoky (Roman name: Blobulous Maximus). I miss them sooooo much!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Find someone you trust, who vibes with your cat's personality. Obviously loving cats is important, but a good cat sitter should have some experience dealing with these complicated animals, and know how to read their body language and recognize behavioral changes in case something is wrong. A sitter should not be squeamish about littler boxes, vomit, or accidents. Also knowing how to enter and exit a home carefully because some cats are escape artists.... not on my watch!

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I'm happy to chat or do a meet and greet to see if we are a good fit. I want to know your cat's likes and dislikes, behavioral idiosyncrasies, and anything you think I should know in order to be able to best care for your baby.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

Number one is entering and leaving with caution to prevent escapes. When I care for cats I make sure that they appear and are acting normally, and look for any changes to their routine. I inspect and clean their food, water and litter box at every visit.

Are you usually available during holidays?

I am usually available most holidays. I don't travel very often, especially on holidays.

What is your favorite cat toy?

For an active cat I love a string toy... not an actual string, but the type you fling around for them to chase and jump into the air to get. My cat Sissy flew loved her toy with a feather attachment and would do mid-air somersaults to catch it. I also love to watch them attack catnip toys.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I move slowly and speak to shy cats in a calm quiet voice. I give them time to adjust to me, and don't rush them. I am usually able to win over cats by tailoring my energy to theirs. I know anxiety can result in unexpected reactions so it is important to give timid cat's their space and let them know you are not a threat. Even though I love petting and handling cats, I can tell when they do not want that.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Santa Monica cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $35.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
