What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I have been cat sitting since I was a child (I’m now in my 30’s). When I lived in Holland, you can bet I found a roommate with a cat. My roommate trusted me so much with her cat Luna that she decided to leave us for over a year while they fulfilled their dream of living in Australia. I had no complaints. I also found a flat in Spain that came with two cats whom I loved dearly. Their human parent also trusted me with their kitties that they left me for with them for months to try and pursue a career in music in Valencia. Currently I care for a few cats in my neighborhood while their human parents are away. I give daily updates that include photos.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

Spending time with your precious furballs, of course! And I really love that I can give you the peace of mind that your furbaby is well taken care of when you’re away.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I’ve got a very feisty old girl named Cuello. She’s my world even though she occasionally attempts to leave permanent marks on my arms. To her delight, she’s been successful several times.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Don’t automatically go for the sitter with the best reviews or the highest amount. Look at all your sitter options in your area. Look at their photos, read their stories and answers to questions. Trust your gut.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

Asking how they want me to care for their furbaby. No furbaby is alike, so each requires a tailored approach.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I always keep the door locked while I’m there or away. If the cat parents have an alarm and they want me to use, then that’s what I do.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Yes I am usually available for holidays. Christmas Eve might be tough as that is really the only big holiday my family celebrates.

What is your favorite cat toy?

Anything that a particular cat likes. Right now my cat, Cuello, is obsessed with CVS’s medication paper bags. I crush them into a ball, throw them on the ground, and she goes nuts.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

Patience is key. The kitty will come to me when they are ready. I always sit on the ground so I’m on the kitties level which helps them feel more secure. I also practice reciprocal slow blinking so that the kitty knows I am not a threat. I also carry a collapsible back scratcher so I can ‘pet’ kitties that don’t quite want to go near me.
