I’m Darren and I’ve lived with cats for more than 40 years giving me a deep understanding of their behaviors. I know the worry and concern you have when leaving your four-legged friends with sitters. We have two adorable cats and think about them every time we leave the house! That’s why I’ll care for your cats as if they’re my own! When you hire me, you can expect the following:

My love for cats started when I was young. At 5 years old, I saw the Superman movie where he rescued a cat named Frisky from a tree. My parents got a tuxedo cat shortly afterward so of course I named him Frisky! That’s when it all began for me. After Frisky, we welcomed Cindy, a white long-haired beauty who was only two weeks old and needed to be bottle fed until she was ready for solid food. As an adult, I welcomed Jack (a grey tabby), Oscar (another tuxedo), Copper (an orange tabby), and Miles (an orange long hair). I always take out pet insurance on them so money isn’t an issue when it comes to their care. I also volunteered for Animal Haven in New York City helping them socialize and prepare cats to be adopted. In other words, I’m passionate about keeping cats healthy and happy!

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?
I've been cat sitting for friends and neighbors for more than 10 years and they've ranged from all different types of cats (friendly, aggressive, shy, young, and old). I also volunteered at a rescue where I cared for feral and anxious cats who were recently taken off the streets. Part of my role was to socialize them by positively reinforcing human touches with treats.
What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?
I've always had a soft spot for animals, so when I visit someone who has a dog or cat, I find I spend more time with the pets than the people! Cat sitting gives me the chance to give back the uncomplicated love and comfort animals give me.
Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?
I have two adorable orange cats named Copper and Miles. They have very different personalities but I love them the same!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?
Make sure you have a meet and greet ahead of time so you're absolutely comfortable with the sitter. Every pet parent has their own way of caring for their pets so it's important to feel confident your techniques will be used.
What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?
I want to know everything I can before my first day. When we have the meet and greet, I will ask lots of questions about the food, litter box, toys, water, what do in an emergency, etc. Most of the time everything is straightforward and routine but I try to be ready for any scenario that might happen.
How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?
I always open the entry door slowly using my leg to prevent them from sneaking out. Once inside, I make sure things like computer cords are out of reach, that they only play with cat toys, and doors to electrical or boiler rooms are kept shut.
What is your favorite cat toy?
The laser pointer has to be the most entertaining for both the cat and human!
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
Making eye contact with some cats is a sign of aggression, so for them I don't look in their eyes. I'll try sitting on a sofa with treats or a spoonful of food and let them come to me so they can associate me with something positive. I'll try giving them a pet while feeding them to further reinforce I'm on their side!

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

Denver cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $29.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Darren took care of our 4 cats while we were traveling for Christmas. They seem to have loved him and were all in great moods when we returned! Usually they seem upset and stressed when we get back from this long of a trip so he must’ve done something right :) He sent me tons of pictures and daily updates and even came at their normal feeding time each day, despite some poor weather. He followed instructions perfectly and went above and beyond with their care. For example when they broke one of their water bowls he replaced it the same day! I highly recommend picking Darren as a cat sitter- we will certainly be choosing him in the future!!!

Darren is a fantastic sitter. He knew what questions to ask in order to be prepared for our week away. Our kitties rarely throw up, but had two separate instances while we were away; Darren cleaned it all up for us. He was even kind enough to bring in mail and move our recycling bin off the street for us after collection day. We received daily photos of both cats, which was wonderful. Even when our nervous girl hid under the same blanket daily, it was reassuring to see that familiar lump was doing well. We were happy to hear he had no issues giving our boy his daily medicine as well. It's so nice to know that if we travel again, we have someone we would trust to check in on our cats.

Darren was an amazing help while we were away. He was very professional, took great notes, and made sure my shy lady got what she needed along with some chin scratches! (super rare!!) He was great as well making sure my elder gentleman got his meds on time too. Darren is awesome at communication and it was nice coming home to find the cats were happy and that the house wasn’t a wreck from litter, vomit, or smells.
