Cat Sitting in Washington, DC

I’ve been cat sitting for over 2 years and have experience caring for cats in clients’ homes. I know how important it is to find someone you can trust with your pet, and I always aim to make cats feel as comfortable, safe, and cared for as possible while their owners are away.
I’ve cared for cats with a wide range of personalities, from very social and playful to more shy and independent. I take time to learn each cat’s individual habits and preferences, and I pay close attention to the little details that help them feel at ease, like where they like to rest, how they like to interact, and what helps them feel most comfortable.
I’m very communicative and always send regular updates and photos so owners can feel confident and relaxed while they’re away. More than anything, I genuinely love animals and treat every cat with the same care and attention I would want for my own.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?
What I enjoy most about cat sitting is getting to build trust with each cat in their own way and at their own pace. Every cat has a different personality. Some are immediately affectionate, while others are more reserved, and I like figuring out what makes each one feel comfortable and safe. I also really enjoy being able to keep their routine consistent while their owners are away, whether that’s feeding schedules, playtime, or just spending quiet time with them so they don’t feel alone. There’s something really rewarding about seeing a cat start to relax around you, especially if they were shy at first. On a more practical level, I like the responsibility of it, knowing that I’m there to make sure they’re well cared for, healthy, and content until their person comes home.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?
My main advice would be to look for a sitter who takes the time to understand your cat’s specific routine and personality, not just someone who is there to do the basics. Cats are very routine-oriented, so consistency with feeding, litter, playtime, and any special instructions really matters. I would also recommend sharing as much detail as possible upfront, especially around your cat’s behavior, triggers, and comfort level with new people. Things like where they like to hide, how they respond to strangers, or any medical needs can make a big difference in how smoothly the sit goes. Finally, I think it’s important to choose someone who affirms that they plan to communicate clearly and regularly. Getting updates and knowing your cat is doing well can make being away a lot less stressful, and it also helps the sitter flag anything early if something seems off.
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
I handle timid or anxious cats by giving them space, patience, and a calm environment so they can adjust on their own terms and interact when they feel ready. When I first arrive, I focus on keeping my movements slow and predictable and sticking closely to their normal routine so things feel familiar. I let the cat take the lead on any interaction and never force contact. I pay close attention to body language and respect cues that they want distance, while still making sure their basic needs are met consistently and calmly. Over time, I usually find that most cats become more comfortable once they realize there is no pressure. I’ll gradually build trust through quiet presence and gentle routines, always allowing interaction on their terms, and I adjust my approach based on what each individual cat responds to best.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.
Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.
We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.
Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
