What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I have been catsitting since 2012. Some of my clients had elderly cats that needed special attention. I had 2 of my own cats for 16 and 18 years, and I loved them so much. They were my kids before I had children of my own. I also grew up on a farm with 3 cats, as well as many other animals.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I love the interaction with a cat. I live in a condo that doesn't allow pets, so this is a great way for me to be able to spend some time, and give some attention to a cat who's family is away.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

Sadly, my cats passed away, and the place I live now doesn't allow pets. When I was a child, I had Mama Kitty, Carrots(Carrie) and Blue . As an adult I had Minuit and Yo Yo.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Are they willing to meet your cat while you're there, before they spend time with them alone? Do your cats seem to like them? Do you like them, and feel like they will genuinely care about your cat, and not just pop in to feed them and go?

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I like to meet you and your cat before I actually catsit for you. I take notes when I meet you. That way, you can tell me about your cat's likes and dislikes, their routine, and any special needs or preferences they have.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

Windows and doors securely closed and locked. Comfortable home temperature. Plenty of food and water, and a clean litter box. If a cat is showing signs of missing you, I'm happy to give them extra time and attention.

Are you usually available during holidays?

I would love to spend time with your cats during holidays, vacations, or anytime you're going to be away. My schedule is quite flexible, and I would love to keep your cat company. It would be really nice for me, as my family lives far away, and I choose non holiday times to visit them.

What is your favorite cat toy?

In our first visit, your cats toys will be part of our interaction so I can see what they like. You can let me know how they like to play, and their favorite toys. I like toys that give them some exercise. It's also important for me to know if they have a comfort toy that they like to sleep with.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I've worked with shy cats. I let them get used to me at their own pace. Calm, quiet, and patience are key. They decide if and when they want to interact, and I don't try to hurry the process. I just talk quietly, and slowly let them react, or ignore me. They'll come around eventually if I spend time with them. Toys or food sometimes help them figure out that I'm not scary.
