What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I’ve been cat sitting since 2001, when I became a stay-at-home mom. Caring for pets allowed me to earn extra income while still being home to raise my children. It all started by caring for the cats of family and friends, and as my experience and reputation grew, I began caring for cats for clients in the community. That same year, I adopted my first kitten, which sparked a lifelong passion for cats. I also worked for Pet Nanny in New Jersey, providing reliable, compassionate care for clients’ cats while they were away. Over the years, I’ve cared for cats of all ages, personalities, and needs, and I understand how important it is to keep them comfortable by maintaining their routines and giving them the attention, patience, and affection they deserve.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

When working with a new cat parent, I like to start with a meet-and-greet. It’s a chance for us to get to know each other and, most importantly, for me to get to know their cat. I ask about the cat’s daily routine, feeding schedule, litter box habits, favorite toys, personality, medical needs, and any quirks or behaviors I should be aware of. I also have the owner show me where everything is kept and explain any household instructions. I know how important consistency is for cats, so I do my best to follow their normal routine. My goal is to make my visits as stress-free as possible, whether that means engaging in playtime, offering quiet companionship, or simply respecting a shy cat’s space. Communication is very important to me. After each visit, I send updates with photos so owners know exactly how their cat is doing.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

Your cat’s safety and your home’s security are my top priorities. Before each visit, I carefully follow any instructions you’ve provided and maintain your cat’s normal routine to help minimize stress. I always make sure doors, windows, and gates are securely closed before entering and again before leaving to prevent any chance of an escape. During each visit, I check that your cat is eating, drinking, and behaving normally. I also make sure fresh water is available, the litter box is clean, and the home environment is safe. If I notice anything unusual, I’ll contact you immediately and, if necessary, your veterinarian or emergency contact. Before leaving, I do a final walkthrough to ensure your cat is safe, all doors are locked, lights or alarms are set according to your instructions, and your home is exactly as you left it. I treat every home with the same care and respect.
