Hi there! I'm a cat owner & lover who has had one or more cats continually throughout my life. I've been looking after others' dogs & cats either professionally or as a side gig (and am friends go-to ☺️) since 2017. I have been called a Cat Whisperer by more than a couple of people, & what, to me, that seems to come down to is that I consciously make an effort to respect cats' boundaries and make them feel safe, comfortable, & for them to know that my presence there is for them, & that they will dictate the terms... I have been called a Cat Whisperer by more than a couple of people, & what, to me, that seems to come down to is that I consciously make an effort to respect cats' boundaries and make them feel safe, comfortable, & for them to know that my presence there is for them, & that they will dictate the terms of our interaction, even if that's their choice to be left alone (however much I might want to pet them). 😉 I do also tend to default to using the "slow blink" that I picked up from Jackson Galaxy (TV's "Cat Daddy"), & I wouldn't be surprised if my willingness to sit on the floor with cats is more than that of most folks 🤷‍♀️😂. I've looked after blind kitties; kitties that want maximum space, no interaction, & simply for me to tend to their food, water, & litter; cats that want the maximum love & attention that can fit in one visit, & everything in between. I'd love to meet your cat(s), help give you peace of mind that they're well looked after when you have to be away from them, & possibly become your new go-to cat sitter!

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

Of course I enjoy getting to spend time with cats, because what cat owner doesn't love doing that? I also enjoy knowing that I'm both doing my best to help someone's cat(s) feel as at-ease as possible in their owner's absence, and, through photos, thorough notes, timeliness, communication, & reliability, giving owners' peace of mind that their cat(s) are being taken care of while they're away, beyond the simple provision of food & water + the scooping of the litterbox.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

My current kitty Venus is a flamepoint Siamese I got from the Cherokee County Animal Shelter in spring of 2022. She's curious, talkative, affectionate, makes her preferences clear, is a total lap cat, & enjoys making sure her dog brother knows she is in charge.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

With all cats, I make an effort to defer to them and how much interaction they want to have. This is, of course, perhaps most important for the timid and anxious cats. I don't chase them or pick them up or impose any interactions on them that they haven't given a green light for. If they don't readily come say hello, I may sit on the floor a little distance from them, & just talk to them gently, maybe slow blink, maybe put a hand out (but not near them), to let them know I'm open to interaction, & apart from that, I wait to see if they choose to come meet me. I may offer a treat if the owner has said that's fine, but if the cat doesn't want to come to me for the treat, I'll just leave it there for them.

I’ve had a very positive experience with Mary as a pet sitter. She was very dependable, and I felt comfortable knowing my cats were in good hands. One thing I especially appreciated was how great she was about keeping me updated. She regularly communicated with me, sent updates, and made sure I knew how everything was going, which gave me a lot of peace of mind while I was away. She was attentive to my pets and respectful of my home. I absolutely feel comfortable hiring her again ( already have her booked for my next trip) and recommend her as someone trustworthy and caring to look after their pets. BONUS: she was able to get my very skittish kitten to come out and let her hold her.

Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:

More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.

All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
