I get to know each cat I am lucky to care for so I can best make them feel comfortable. I have worked with shy and outgoing cats and every personality in between. I approach each cat in a way that they feel loved and cared for. I make sure to meet each cat on their own terms.
I have experience giving medication to cats and pay attention to changes in personality or appetite. I send photos and updates daily so you know your kitty is doing well !
I always make sure to keep routines the same, but if something isn’t working for your cat I am sure to pivot when necessary. I pay attention to the little details like cleaning around litter boxes, double checking doors and locks, and keeping the space tidy.

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?
I have been cat sitting off and on my whole life but have been sitting cats very regularly in the last three years. My experience includes daily visits with basic care to administering medications and working with cats who are shy or nervous.
Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?
My favorite cat sitting experience was for a blind kitty named Mango. It was great because she had an amaizong personality and was always waiting for me (could hear me coming up the stairs) when I got there. I learned to be observant and to use touch to build trust with Mango.
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
I am a part time Special Education teacher (have been for over 20 years) so I know that it’s important to meet both humans and animals where they are. I build trust through being gentle and open. I try and keep routines predictable and have a very calm demeanor. I feel this builds trust over time.

I had a very great experience with Amalia who took care of my old diabetic cat. She was always on time with my cat’s strict schedule and she paid close attention to detail especially when it came to his medicine and feeding. She gave me daily updates and photographs and was an exceptional sitter to work with. I definitely recommend her!

Holiday Surcharge
Due to high demand during holidays, sitters on Meowtel have the option to set their own holiday price increase, which can be found in the rates section of their profiles. If your reservation falls within three (3) days before and/or after a federal holiday, or on the holiday itself, a holiday surcharge, determined by your sitter, will be added to your reservation.
These are the date ranges in 2026 to which the holiday surcharge applies:

- January 16-22: MLK Day
- February 13-19: Presidents Day
- May 22-28: Memorial Day
- June 16-22: Juneteenth
- July 1-7: July 4th

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

Chicago cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $30.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Amalia is amazing with cats. She has cared for my cat Nellie, who has special needs including diabetes. She was able to administer her meds with no problems and was always very attentive to any changes with her. My cat loves Amalia. She is normally pretty shy but always comes right out and wants to be in her lap. She just gets cats. She understands what makes them special and makes sure they feel loved and cared for!
