Hello, my name is Laurie! I am a Special Education Teaching Assistant. I’m also the mom of a sassy and tenacious Calico girl named Ripley & a sweetheart tuxedo girlie named Lydia.
Ripley has been the most wonderful thing to happen to me in the last 5 years. I don’t know what I would do without her. I feel like cats, especially yours, have a special bond with you. They can sense when something is off, when your vibe shifts, and how much you need them in that moment.
My cat can me laugh, roll my eyes, and help me fall asleep all in the same day. I’m not sure if too many other animals are capable of doing that for their humans. I can only imagine what they think of us when we talk to them and it makes me giggle.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?
I have 2 cats! My first kitty’s name is Ripley. The naming process comes with a backstory, but for now, I’ll simply say that her full royal title is Princess Lieutenant Ellen Ripley. My newest little one is a sweet tuxedo girl named Lydia Deetz.
Are you usually available during holidays?
Typically, most holidays I’m in the area. I tend to go to Michigan to see my parents for Thanksgiving, but that can always change.
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
I want the cat to be comfortable enough to approach me when they are ready. Things can run on their schedule and their vibes. I want to be a supportive presence for them when I’m there so that they feel safe and happy. When they’re ready to trust is when it’ll happen.

Laurie was wonderful with my cat. He is usually shy with strangers, but he seemed to sense a positive connection with her right away. She kept me updated while I was away, and she even sent several pictures of him so I could see he was happy and well taken care of. Holiday Surcharge
Due to high demand during holidays, sitters on Meowtel have the option to set their own holiday price increase, which can be found in the rates section of their profiles. If your reservation falls within three (3) days before and/or after a federal holiday, or on the holiday itself, a holiday surcharge, determined by your sitter, will be added to your reservation.
These are the date ranges in 2026 to which the holiday surcharge applies:
- January 1-4: New Year's 2026
- January 16-22: MLK Day
- February 13-19: Presidents Day
- May 22-28: Memorial Day
- June 16-22: Juneteenth
- July 1-7: July 4th
- September 4-10: Labor Day
- October 9-15: Columbus Day / Indigenous Peoples' Day

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

Evanston cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $33.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Laurie remembered me telling her that my cat Murphy was very particular about his toys. He only likes small ones that have a string for a tail. He won’t play with anything else. She happened to see some in a store a few months later and stopped by to suprise Murphy. They have been lifelong friends since then.
