Hi! I’m Steph, a lifelong cat enthusiast and proud owner of four quirky cats. I’ve been living with and caring for cats the past 17 years, and I’ve bonded with just about every temperament out there. From shy under-the-bed hiders to fiercely territorial types, I’ve learned how to meet cats on their terms. Growing up with a particularly spicy cat taught me early on how to read feline body language and respond with patience!

My approach is calm, observant, and all about making your cat feel safe and cared for. Whether they’re in the mood for playtime or quiet company, I’ll follow their lead!

My services are based in Chicago’s Uptown area, but I’m always happy to discuss traveling farther if needed. Feel free to reach out with your location and I’ll do my best to accommodate.

Learn More About Stephanie

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

What I enjoy most about cat sitting is being a dependable, comforting presence when both the cat and their human need it most. I know how stressful it can be to be away from a beloved pet, and it’s deeply rewarding to offer care that helps everyone feel at ease. I genuinely enjoy getting to know each cat’s unique personality and finding ways to make them feel safe, seen, and supported. Building trust with a cat and their parent is something I take pride in!

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

Yes, I share my home with four wonderful cats who keep life just the right amount of chaotic! Peach is my 8 year old long haired orange and white girl. She’s incredibly sweet and food motivated, but she prefers affection on her own terms. Stella, my energetic and vocal 7 year old short haired tabby, loves playing fetch with her pom pom and shreds any cardboard in her path. She’s inseparable from Rose, my 6 year old long haired tabby, who’s a cuddle bug through and through. Rose loves to burrow under blankets and birdwatch side by side with Stella. And then there’s Zuko, my 3 year old short haired tuxedo boy. He’s got a mellow, loafy vibe and loves to nap between your legs on your blanket. Zuko has asthma, so I give him allergy medication as needed.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

When working with a new cat parent, I listen carefully to everything they feel is important to share and take notes to ensure I understand their cat’s routine, preferences, and care needs. I ask thoughtful follow up questions and always clarify anything that’s unclear. I make sure to ask where to find key supplies (food, water, litter, toys, cleaning items, and favorite hiding spots) so I can keep things running smoothly while respecting the home. I aim to maintain the cat’s routine as closely as possible to minimize stress, and I’m happy to provide updates in whatever format the owner prefers. I also like to confirm emergency contact info and vet details ahead of time, just in case. If it helps the cat (or the parent!) feel more comfortable, I’m more than happy to set up a meet and greet before the first official visit.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

Cats feel safest when they can control the pace of interactions, so I always let them set the tone. This might mean sitting quietly nearby, avoiding direct eye contact, or using slow blinks (which cats recognize as friendly signals). I give them plenty of space to observe me and decide when they’re ready to come closer, never forcing attention or touch. Sometimes that means just quietly tidying up their space so they can get used to my presence without pressure. Over time, cats will approach on their own once they realize I’m a calm, consistent part of their routine. My goal is always to reduce stress and build trust, whether that means gentle play, quiet company, or simply making sure they feel safe and cared for in their own environment.

Steph took such great care of our cat while we were away. She sent detailed updates after every visit along with lots of wonderful photos, which made it easy to relax knowing he was in good hands. She was wonderful about administering his medication and keeping him on his usual routines. It was clear that he had lots of fun during their playtime together. We came home to a happy, content cat and are so grateful for the loving care Steph provided. We would enthusiastically recommend her to anyone looking for a fantastic pet sitter.

We have two cats, one very shy and skeptical of new people and the other initially timid but very needy for attention. Stephanie was able to earn their trust immediately, even our shy one that sometimes our sitters only see hiding under the bed. Stephanie provided lots of updates and GREAT pictures. She demonstrated a strong understanding of cat needs for variety of intellectually stimulating activities. She frequently combined favorite toys to make them more interesting. We could tell they were enjoying their time with Stephanie, and knowing the cats were in such good hands definitely made relaxing on vacation easier. We absolutely would invite Stephanie back and highly recommend her services.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Chicago cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $30.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet!
