I am a lifelong cat lover, rescue advocate, and proud pet parent of three cats: Cheeto, Sampson, and Gouda. I recently relocated to Elkton, MD from Michigan and am excited to offer experienced, and compassionate cat sitting to feline families in the area.
Since 2018, I’ve been volunteering with cat rescue organizations, and since 2022, I’ve fostered nearly 200 cats and kittens—including many neonatal babies just days old, requiring around-the-clock care... Hi! I am Johanna and I am so excited to meet and care for your fur-babbies!

Through fostering and caring for my own cats, I’ve gained hands-on experience providing a wide range of medical kitty-care: from administering oral medications and vaccines to using inhalers and caring for post-surgical kitties.
I'm also passionate about cat photography and have volunteered countless hours capturing professional portraits of adoptable cats at shelters. These photos have helped many cats find their forever homes by showing off their unique personalities and charm. What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?
Similar to being a foster and volunteer, sitting allows me to meet and spend time with cats! I find so much joy in caring for cats. Since it is unrealistic for me to have a hundred cats of my own, I hope that you will allow me the pleasure of caring for yours.
What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?
If it is our first time working together, I require an introduction meeting. For this meeting, I will visit your home and you can facilitate an introduction between myself and your cat(s). We will review each and every detail of how you would like for me to care for your beloved babies and establish clear plans for any home and kitty emergencies. Emergencies can happen unexpectedly and quickly, so it is my top priority to be prepared.
How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?
Safety and security can be ensured by being responsible, proactive, and observant. While visiting, I will respect your home and only access/use areas you’ve authorized. By request, I can keep your home from appearing vacant by bringing in mail, or adjusting lights/curtains. I will monitor for kitty health concerns (not eating, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.). I’ll be careful to observe any hazards (broken toys, chewed wires, water leaks, power outages). I will be cautious entering and leaving to avoid escapes, and triple check I’ve appropriately secured all exits.
What is your favorite cat toy?
I have so much fun with my cat Sampson on his one fast cat wheel. Yes, cat wheel! Similar to a hampster on a wheel, my cat uses it to work out his zoomies.
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
I have experience volunteering at a cat shelter photographing kitties for their Pet Finder profiles. As hard as we worked to make the shelter comfortable, kitties were often very timid and afraid. Nonetheless, I needed quality photos of the kitties to help them get adopted. I learned to have a lot of patience and to set myself up to allow the cat to come to me, when they were ready. The core of my technique is to introduce each sense (hearing, sight, smell, and touch) one at a time, taking ques from kitty the throughout.

She followed instructions we left and when she had a question and couldn’t reach us because we were vacationing in a different time zone, Johanna reached out to our emergency contact. We have never left our cats in the care of anyone but family members or neighbors. But this year we had a family reunion out of state during the holidays, and I went looking for a pet sitter. When I found Meowtel, which specializes in cats, I knew I found our sitter. Everything went so smoothly. Our sitter, Johanna, responded quickly to all messages. She came and met our cats. She asked good questions and listened carefully to all instructions. She even sent photos from her visits. I was so happy I found Meowtel and very happy with Johanna. Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

Elkton cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $27.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
