I grew up with many cats as pets and have plenty of experience with caregiving for older cats. I frequently visit my Mom and her three kitties, who are 17, 18, and 19 years old! I like to get to know kitties and their unique personalities on their own terms. I will prioritize making them feel safe, comfortable, and loved. I also want you to feel comfortable and at ease knowing your cat is happy while you are away, and will send plenty of pictures and updates. I hope to hear from you soon, and can’t wait to meet your beautiful fur babies!

Learn More About Elena

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I am relatively new to cat sitting, and am looking forward to gaining experience if you are willing to put your trust in me. I cat sit often for my Mom who travels frequently and whose cats are 17, 18, and 19 years old. They each have their own particularities, daily medication needs, and specific food preferences. I am familiar with administering oral medications, as well as mixing up their favorite food combos. We adopted Benito (the 19 year old) while I was in high school and we had so much fun with him when he was a rambunctious kitten. I am very excited to expand my cat sitting skills outside of sitting for friends and family. I’d love to meet you and your kitty and see if we would be a good fit!

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I don’t have any kitties of my own, sadly, due to my landlord’s policy. I’m looking to fill this gap in my life by offering cat sitting services to new people. We had a number of cats growing up, who I loved dearly. When I was a child, we adopted two Turkish kittens who had been separated from their mother in Istanbul. We named them Siyah and Ginger (I named Ginger, after my favorite Spice Girl), and we took them all the way back to the states. Siyah was an impressive hunter, one time catching a hummingbird and another time coming back with a black snake spiraled up in her mouth! Our next kitty, Benito, is now 19 years old and turning 20 in April :)

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I will give the cat some space while sitting on the floor nearby. I will speak to him or her quietly and slowly, and wait patiently for them to get used to my presence in the room. If they are extra shy, I might offer them a little treat or one of their preferred toys. If they are determined to stay put, I will ensure they have clean water and food dishes nearby, and let them have their space.

Elena went above and beyond. We had the large snowfall happen while we were out of town and she made sure to communicate and go the extra mile for our cat. Our cat was in great hands. Will be requesting her in the future for any pet sitting needs.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Portland cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $25.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
