I started my work in pet care relatively young by sitting for family/friends before growing a large enough client base that I started a business. I also worked as a part-time Veterinarian Assistant for ten years. My pet care and behavioral consultant business kept me busy until I decided to downscale in order to take on my current career path... I adore pets of all kinds, and am IAABC Accredited for Cats. I previously worked as a Vet Assistant and have extensive experience with everything from tortoises to horses!

I started my work in pet care relatively young by sitting for family/friends before growing a large enough client base that I started a business. I also worked as a part-time Veterinarian Assistant for ten years. My pet care and behavioral consultant business kept me busy until I decided to downscale in order to take on my current career path.
I grew up with both working cats and cats that were part of the indoor household. I find them to be loyal companions and quite interactive with their environment regardless of type! Some of my favorite experiences with cats have been through my work in hospice to bring cats to those in hospice care. The cats are wonderfully loving creatures that seem to know what the person they have been brought to needs!
Due to this work, and serving as a foster parent, I have a wide range of experience with cats. I'm quite comfortable medicating cats of any age - wether it be as simple as applying salve to paws or as complex as subcutaneous fluid administration - and enjoy the complexities that come with such care. I also have deep topic knowledge on how to befriend a cat that has suffered neglect and the types of stimulation that different cats need to be happy. This is rounded out by my desire to continuously learn and keep my knowledge up to date. I am to complete continuing education credits each month that keeps me in the loop on the latest information.
I take my responsibility as a pet sitter quite seriously, in fact some people think it is too serious. My detail oriented and calm personality make me a great fit for cat sitting. I find the work rewarding and it gives me a type of happiness that other things don't quite meet.
To put it simply, I missed caring for other folk's pets and using my skills so much that I came back to it through Meowtel!

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?
I have been cat sitting for over 15 years and have been a cat foster parent for 8 years. In that time I have cared for hundreds of cats with a vast range of characters - including cats with cancer and cats with the highest energy levels that require intense play.
What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?
Getting to take care of someone's cat is a privilege that I take most seriously. My favorite part is providing companionship while a pet parent is gone so that the cat does not have to be lonely. I love the variety of this service and that I get to meet so many lovely cats!
Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?
My favorite cat sitting experience was the time I had the pleasure of caring for client's triplet Siberians. They are high energy cats that can be very shy at first but will refuse to leave your side once they know you. I regularly cared for them throughout my early pet sitting career and they taught me many valuable skills.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?
Make sure to discuss their experiences to see what is relevant to you and address any questions you have. There are a lot of awesome sitters out there who can still be a bad fit for a cat parent, so don't be afraid to say no if it just doesn't feel right!
What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?
It's important to me to take the time to get to know a little bit about them, including what they like to do for fun and how they became a cat parent! This means I ask many questions in the beginning, but it makes for a better ongoing relationship over time.
How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?
First, I make sure that I speak with the pet parent about their cat(s)'s behavior in regards to materials in the home and when people are exiting/entering. I also make sure to check if the cat(s) have had a sitter before. Some cats will stress eat things they should not or turn into escape artists and I want to be prepared! Lastly, I discuss any other pets or people that will be in the home during the booking period and we go over emergency plans.
Are you usually available during holidays?
My availability books up quick during the holidays, so if I'm unavailable it's almost certainly because I'm booked, not because I am not available for pet sitting in general. Holidays are one of my favorite times to sit because it gives pet parents the chance to fully relax and take a break from life while knowing their pet is well cared for. Make sure you book me well in advance!
What is your favorite cat toy?
This is so hard! There are all these amazing toys out there now that cater to a wide variety of needs. I think my favorite would have to be the complex cat towers or the treat puzzles.
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
I make sure to chat with their pet parent about how they like to be introduced to new people first. I use that information plus my experience with foster cats to make sure that they feel like they have the space they need to come check me out. This usually means moving slowly and staying low to the floor.

This is the 2nd or 3rd time Irene has watched. my cat Lenny, and I'll certainly be hiring her again. I was away for an extended period of time just as my cat was recovering from surgery. She was extremely patient and took all measures to make sure he could comfortably eat, which was his biggest struggle. Amazing communication, would highly recommend!

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.
If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.
Charlotte cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $26.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.
Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.
We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.
Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!

We cannot say enough how fantastic Irene is-- she has a client for life. Our kitty has vision impairment and is currently dealing with some health issues, and we were so nervous about leaving her with anyone.
