Cat Sitting in Clayton, NC

I grew up with multiple cats in our home at all times, with experience getting them all as kittens. My fiance and I now have 4 cats and 2 dogs of our own. Last year we fostered a small litter of kittens that I found and rescued (one of whom joined our family as cat #4 haha). I have had numerous people tell me that I am a cat whisperer. In addition to caring for my own cats, throughout my life I have taken care of friends and neighbors cats and dogs while they were out of town... In addition to caring for my own cats, throughout my life I have taken care of friends and neighbors cats and dogs while they were out of town. And any time that I see a cat, I try to make friends with them to the point of friends making jokes that they hope to find someone who looks at them the way I look at every cat. I have been taking time off from teaching so I have been cat sitting quite a bit in this area since the start of the year. I will spend my visit doting on your babies as if they were my own, as well as making sure all of their needs are taken care of. I also enjoy writing detailed visit notes and adding lots of pictures! Every visit is different based on the cats preferences and needs.

Learn More About Rachel

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I love meeting new cats and building relationships and trust with them as I find it very rewarding. I also just love getting to spend time with them and be the highlights of their day when their humans are gone.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I have 4 cats myself listed by age: Leo, who is around 11 years old, a slightly overweight tuxedo cat that my fiance got when he was 6 months old Flerken, who is 5 years old and is your stereotypical weird orange cat. I got him and Mozzie as kittens the day that I moved into my apartment when I moved to NC Mozzie, who is also 5 years old and is a lighter gray and white patchwork medium hair. He is very silly and loves to give kisses Tootsie, who is just over a year old and is our failed foster baby. She is dark grey with some spots of white and is a spoiled princess

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

When I get a booking request, if I am able to take it the first thing that I do is let the parents know I am able to do it and then schedule a meet and greet. I think it’s important for them to get to meet the person they are trusting with their babies. It is also important for me to be able to go meet the cats with their parents around for comfort, and to be able to see where all of their stuff is. I usually chat with them for a little bit at the meet and greet so that they can feel comfortable with me being in their home.

Are you usually available during holidays?

This depends on the holiday and the year to be honest. However for the holiday season this year (Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years 2025) I will be around and available to take care of some kitties!

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I give them lots of opportunities to approach me and smell me and my stuff. I like to give them their space generally and just sit in the room with them and talk to them. In my experience even if a cat is timid and doesn’t want to actually be pet they still appreciate knowing that someone is there and they are not alone. I also like to offer them lots of treats and slow blinks to show that I am a safe person. I have had several cats who hid at the beginning of a booking and by the end were coming out of hiding to get pets and belly rubs because I spent time just being near them and showing that I will respect their boundaries.

Rachel is someone that thinks, breathes and lives cats. She's constantly providing enrichment recommendations (I have gotten so many toys that my cats really love) and simply eager to learn all she can to improve her cats lives. If anything, my cats are cared for better when she's in charge. Every cat is an individual to her and she does her best to learn their wants and needs and personalities.

I have never felt more comfortable leaving. My cat son is usually a monster but actually loves Rachel because she put in so much time and kindness winning him over. He has abused his previous sitters and I have actually had people quit mid- job. But Rachel is the real deal. She is so detailed, professionally and a genuine pet lover. She has changed my life since now I can vacation or leave the area without any stress. I know he is taken care of even better if I was home.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Clayton cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $24.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
