Hi! I’m a pre-veterinary student at UNL with experience working as a veterinary assistant, so caring for animals is something I take seriously and enjoy. I’ve worked with cats of all personalities, from playful and social to shy or anxious, and I’m comfortable helping them feel calm and safe while their owners are away.

During visits I make sure food, water, and litter are taken care of, and I always spend time giving cats attention, play, or quiet company depending on what they prefer. Because of my veterinary assistant experience, I’m also comfortable giving medications if needed and paying attention to small changes in behavior or health.

I’m also happy to send updates and photos so you can see how they’re doing!

Learn More About Sophia

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

Honestly I just really like getting to know each cat’s personality. Some are super social and want to play the whole time, and others take a little while to warm up, which I enjoy because it feels rewarding when they start to trust you. I like making sure they’re comfortable and sticking to their routine while their owners are away. As a pre-vet student and veterinary assistant I already spend a lot of time around animals, so cat sitting is something I genuinely enjoy doing and caring for them comes pretty naturally to me.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

Yes, I have one kitty myself. Her name is mittens and she is 11 years old. Last year she was diagnosed with diabetes, but after moving in with me she has gone into remission and lost almost 6lbs!!

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I approach timid or anxious cats very patiently and always let them set the pace. I avoid forcing interaction and give them space instead to observe me. If a cat prefers to hide at first, that’s completely okay. I’ll sit quietly nearby so they can come to me when they’re ready. I’m also familiar with reading cat body language and recognizing signs of stress so I can respond in a supportive way.

I was very happy with Sophia as my cat sitter. I have two older cats that are not used to me being away. Sophia was very good at trying to make them comfortable, by playing with them, making sure their toys were out and sporadically arranged thru the apartment, before she would leave the apartment. My cats are picky eaters and she used every method in the book to make this experience enticing, so that they would eat while i was gone, and they did eat. They didn't make it easy for her. I wasn't able to watch my indoor cams very much, because I was very busy taking care of my 6 month old grandaughter out of state, with a sick mama. I could see from hearing camera jingle notifications that she was VERY timely and very CONSISTENT all four days, morning and evening. This gave me so much reassurance. I felt that I didn't need to watch my cams at all. She provided an update twice a day with photos and she was always very quick to respond to any concerns I had. Even before the sitting began.. a couple of days before, I was showing my anxiety about leaving them and concerns I was having about them and she was always understanding and replied promptly. She encouraged updating her. She always replies promptly. When i came home, everything was tidy.. floors, boxes clean, food area clean and extra cat dishes were cleaned, they had plenty of water. Everything perfect! She even took out the garbage!!! Sophia also had emptied the litter genie. It was completely empty when I came home, which was very helpful to me. 😀 She left thoughtful notes and cards for me about Suki and Morris, along with an adorable gift bag with a cat toy, lickable treats, and yummy treats even for me! It was a thoughtful surprise when I came home. ❤️ You will be very pleased with Sophia ❤️ - After having a day of rest, I looked thru my indoor camera footage. What I saw was very sweet. Sophia would first come into the apartment and announce herself by gently calling the names of my cats. It was expected that they would be under the bed, so she went to the bedroom first. She talked to them, lifting the bedspread up to see under the bed, maybe with a toy in hand, too. She didn't pressure them to come out. She went on to feed them, clean boxes , sort thru toys etc. Then she would go to the bedroom again and lift the bedspread to talk to them, without pressure. She then would sit on the rug, on the floor, leaning against the bed, being "present", just so they knew they weren't alone. I found that very touching and worthy of adding to the review. Thank you, Sophia ❤️

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet!
