What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

Before the booking: I like to get to know you and your cat a little bit—your cat’s personality, routine, feeding schedule, litter habits, favorite toys, hiding spots, and anything else that will help me make them comfortable. I’ll also go over any special instructions. During each visit: I follow your cat’s normal routine as closely as possible. I’ll provide fresh food and water, scoop the litter box, give medications if needed and agreed upon, and spend time interacting with your cat based on their comfort level. Communication: I’ll send you an update and photos from each visit so you know how your cat is doing. After the visit: I make sure everything is clean and secure before I leave, including checking that your cat has what they need and that doors/windows are properly secured. I want your cat to feel comfortable and cared for while you are away.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

Your cat’s safety is my top priority. I’m very careful when entering and leaving the home and always make sure doors, windows, and any other access points are securely closed before I leave. I follow your instructions closely, including feeding schedules, medications, and any areas of the home your cat should or shouldn’t have access to. I also keep an eye out for anything unusual, such as changes in behavior, eating, drinking, or litter-box habits. I also make sure food, medications, cleaning products, and other potentially harmful items are kept safely away from them. Most importantly, I treat every cat as if they were my own—with patience, attention, and lots of care. I’ll send you updates and photos during visits so you can feel confident that your cat is safe and doing well while you’re away.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I understand that not every cat is going to greet me at the door—and that’s completely okay! I never force interaction or try to pull a hiding cat out of their safe space. I start each visit calmly and quietly, giving the cat time to get comfortable with my presence. I follow their cues and let them decide when they’re ready to approach me. Sometimes that means sitting nearby and talking softly, offering treats, or using a favorite toy without expecting them to come out right away. For particularly nervous cats, success doesn’t necessarily mean getting them to cuddle or play. Sometimes success is simply knowing they’re safe, eating, drinking, and using their litter box normally. And I’ll keep their parent updated with photos and honest notes about how they’re doing, even if their visit consists mostly of seeing two little eyes peeking out from under the bed.
