What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I have been catsitting since Fall 2024, practically full-time. I also spent 1 1/2 years living on the southern coast of Turkey (a nation known for their devotion to felines), much of it devoted to being a warm lap for any interested street cat.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

Cats. Cuddles. Attitude. Playtime. Sweet little demanding faces. Learning more about animal behavior. I love overnight sits for exploring different neighborhoods.

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

I think my favorite was for a sit in Brooklyn, in the neighborhood wedged between South Williamsburg and Clinton Hill. There was a skittish cat named Sphinxy. I was told she might not appear for a day or two, but she came out within the hour of my arrival and we were best buds for a week. I had plans to see my friend and after repeatedly bailing he said, “You’re just staying inside, cuddling with that cat, aren’t you?” Indeed I was.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I don’t have a cat of my own. I take it pretty seriously and won’t commit until I know my itchy travel feet have subsided. But in the future I would love to have my own cat and I would also love to foster.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

If you can, meet the sitter in person. If that isn’t possible, always do a video call. This person will have access to some of your most precious things; it’s important to get a feel for them and trust the way you feel.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I like to know about food, schedules, favorite toys, litter boxes. Cat parents will usually let you know if their cat is shy/anxious so that’s also helpful to know. I also let cat parents ask me anything they feel they need to know about me, my experience, and my approach to sitting.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I like to think I am fairly attentive and paying close attention throughout the duration of the sit. I keep doors shut, windows without screens shut (unless you have an indoor/outdoor cat), keep the home very tidy, and keep the litter box clean (but that’s really just for everyone’s comfort).

What is your favorite cat toy?

I love crumpled up balls of paper (well I don’t, but they do), twine, and wand toys with flat ribbons at the end.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I am pretty calm overall. I just stay nearby, acknowledge the cat, but don’t invade their space. Usually they will become curious and sniff me out. I am also not above bribing a cat with (approved) treats.
