Cat Sitting in Brooklyn, NY

I’ve loved and cared for cats for most of my life. My experience started when my family took in a stray who turned out to be pregnant, and we ended up caring for her and her five kittens. Since then I’ve helped care for cats at all stages of life, including kittens, seniors, and shy or anxious cats.

Over the years I’ve become very comfortable with the day-to-day details of cat care. I have experience giving oral and topical medications, preparing wet and specialty diets, maintaining litter boxes, and using various kinds of feeders and water vessels! I’m also very attentive to...

I’m also very attentive to behavior and litter box habits, which can often be the first sign that something isn’t right. When I was recently cat sitting, I noticed he was straining in the litter box and took him to emergency care, where he was treated for urinary crystals.

When I cat sit, I try to keep things as close to the cat’s normal routine as possible so they feel comfortable while their owners are away. Some cats want lots of playtime and attention, while others prefer a quieter visit, and I’m always happy to meet them where they are. I also make sure owners feel connected and reassured by sending regular updates and photos during visits.

I work remotely, which gives me flexibility and makes it easy for me to be reliable and consistent with visits. Spending time with cats is something I genuinely love, and I care for every cat as if they were my own.

Learn More About Aia

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

When I work with a new cat parent, I like to start by learning as much as possible about their cat’s routine and personality. Every cat is different, so understanding things like feeding schedules, favorite toys, hiding spots, and any medical needs helps me make sure their routine stays consistent while their owner is away. I also like to know what communication style the owner prefers so I can send updates in a way that feels comfortable for them. During visits I provide regular updates and photos so they can see how their cat is doing. My goal is always to make the experience as stress-free as possible for both the cat and their owner by keeping things familiar, predictable, and well communicated.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

Safety is always my top priority when I’m caring for someone’s cat and home. I’m very mindful about things like securely closing doors and windows, making sure cats can’t slip out during entry or exit, and keeping their environment calm and predictable. I also pay close attention to behavior, eating habits, and litter box activity, since changes in these areas can sometimes signal that something isn’t right. If I ever notice anything unusual, I communicate with the owner right away so we can decide on the best next step. In addition to caring for the cat, I always treat a client’s home with respect and leave everything exactly as I found it.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

When working with shy or anxious cats, I always take things at the cat’s pace. Some cats warm up quickly, while others need more time and space, and I’m very comfortable adjusting to that. I actually have experience with this from raising a stray cat, where building trust took a long time. I learned early on that you can’t force interaction, and that patience and consistency are what really make a difference. Over time, he became comfortable because I respected his boundaries and let him come to me when he felt safe. I bring that same approach when cat sitting. I focus on creating a calm environment and letting the cat approach me on their own terms. Even if a cat prefers to stay hidden, I still make sure their needs are fully taken care of while giving them the space they need.

I can’t recommend my daughter Aia as a cat sitter enough. She has a truly special love for cats. it shows in everything she does. She cares for them unconditionally and naturally connects with each cat she meets. Aia takes the time to understand every cat’s personality and unique needs, making sure they feel safe, comfortable, and loved. Whether it’s feeding, playing, or just spending quiet time cuddling, she gives them her full attention and care. What really stands out is how much she genuinely enjoys being around cats—she even brings them toys and loves capturing sweet moments with photos. She always puts their well-being first. Our cat Tom absolutely loves her, which says everything. If you’re looking for someone kind, attentive, and truly devoted to your cat’s happiness, she is the perfect choice.

Aia has been an absolute lifesaver for us. From day one, she treated our cat Billie like he was her own. What sets Aia apart is her genuine attention to detail—she doesn’t just check a box and move on. She actively engages with Billie, plays with him, makes sure he’s fed properly, and showers him with affection. Most importantly, she takes his special needs seriously and handles his care with the utmost sensitivity and expertise. Billie’s excitement when Aia arrives. He’s already anticipating her next visit before she even leaves. It’s rare to find someone this reliable, this passionate about pet care, AND equipped to handle special needs. We trust Aia completely with our beloved companion, and that peace of mind is invaluable.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet!
