Cat Sitting in Buffalo, NY

I’ve had cats as pets since I was 2 years old. My first cat's name was Victor. He was a quiet cat, loved laying in the sunlight and drinking the milk out of my cereal bowl. He developed diabetes after a steroid shot he needed after he snuck out and got into an altercation with another cat. For a couple of years we gave him insulin shots 2x a day until unfortunately, it became too much for him and we said goodbye after 13 years in 2010.

After a couple of months, we started looking at cats again. I found a kitten that was about 3 months old online, and my mom and I went to go meet him. While at the foster home, we met the kitten, but another one who was about 2 months old kept climbing up to us to give us hugs. We left with 2 kittens that day, instead of just the 1 we intended. We named them Spencer (named after Spencer Reid from Criminal Minds) and Albus (named after Albus Dumbledore from Harry Potter).

In addition to administering insulin to Victor, I have experience with other medications as well...

We named them Spencer (named after Spencer Reid from Criminal Minds) and Albus (named after Albus Dumbledore from Harry Potter).

In addition to administering insulin to Victor, I have experience with other medications as well. Spencer, as a kitten in the foster home, developed an eye infection from a herpes virus. It flared up occasionally and I’d have to give him eye drops and liquid amoxicillin. At 13 years, Spencer was diagnosed with Lymphoma and required a steroid pill everyday. He has since passed from the illness.

Albus lives with my parents now that I have moved out, but I still go to visit him a couple times a week! I adopted a kitten, Iris, in 2024 and she lives with my husband, our dog and myself at my house. She required ear drops when she was a kitten due to ear mites, but thankfully has not needed much since!

Since I was probably about 15 or 16 Friends, family, and neighbors came to me often asking if I can watch their animals while they are away on vacation. Whether it is dogs, cats, or fish, they are happy knowing that someone who loves animals is there to take care of them.

In 2019 I began working for a local cat sitting business. During my time there, I’ve done over 100 cat sits and have had repeat clients. I also took care of birds, fish, and reptiles while I was there. In 2021, the business closed due to the pandemic, and wanting to embrace the time they have with their families.

I graduated from Buffalo State College with a BFA in Fiber Design with a minor in Drawing in 2018. While I am not cat sitting, I have a full-time job working at a textile company as a Senior Customer Service Representative and Artwork Coordinator. And when I’m not doing either of those, I love snuggling up on the couch with my beagle, Guinness and with kitty, Iris while a reading a book or watching Sci-Fi shows!

I am fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19.

I look forward to meeting and caring for your fur babies!

Learn More About Canaan

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I have been pet sitting since I was a teenager. In 2019 I began working for a local cat sitting company, which ended up closing in 2020 due to COVID. I loved it so much and missed visiting kitties, when I found Meowtel I was so excited and applied right away. I have about 15 years of years of pet sitting under my belt.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I love caring for animals and I love that my clients feel their cats are safe. When they tell me they were not worried about their babies and could enjoy their vacation or going out for the night it truly makes my heart happy. And I love spending time with the kitties!

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

Yes! In 2024 I adopted a 9 weeks old kitten! Her name is Iris Meadow. She is a black domestic short hair! While she no longer a kitten, she definitely is my beanie baby 💕

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions to your cat sitter during your meet and greet or even afterwards! If you’d like your sitter to put the key through a mail slot/leave it in the house and lock the door behind them at the end of your reservation, just keep in mind that they won’t be able to access it if they need it for an emergency. I recommend getting a lock box if you can, this way if there are any delays in travel or your sitter has an emergency the key is still accessible as long as the person has the code! Don’t be afraid to ask your sitter if they can stop by after the reservation to drop of the key if it makes you feel more comfortable!

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I offer free meet and greets before you leave on your vacation. I always have a list of questions that I like to ask at the meet and greets and take a lot of notes. I’ll also discuss keys! I will be happy to pick up or drop off your keys if you need me to!

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I usually will open the door slowly and have my hands near the bottom of the door to make sure no kitties run out (just a habit from having my own runner). I always lock the door behind me. At the meet and greet I will ask you for the best place to leave the key when I leave. I recommend some kind of lock box to keep the key in for best security!

What is your favorite cat toy?

The laser pointer is a huge favorite in my house, currently. But I love the telescoping cat toys with the feathers at the end of the strings. This isn’t a toy, but more of a game I like to play with energy cats: I will use dry food and sprinkle little kibbles around the room and they will “hunt” for them. In my experience, if you do this right before bed and they fall asleep right away afterwards 😊

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

Patience. I usually will sit on the floor or in a chair quietly. Offer the backside of my hand just so that they realize I’m not a threat. If available I’ll also offer treats. Sometimes cats will take several visits before they’re comfortable enough to come out, and that’s ok! If you have a timid / anxious cat I may ask you what is their favorite treat or toy that they can’t resist. Trust is key, so I make sure to be respectful of your cats personal space but still let them know that I’m here to be buddies not to be a threat 😊

I can't say enough about Canaan, she is everything I want in a cat sitter and more. We moved here from New Jersey in late August and it took until January to find a sitter. During the Meet & Greet it was obvious that she is a cat person and the kitties appeared to trust her. They usually run and hide when a new person enters the house but they hung around her, not fearing the nice friendly stranger. Canaan sent us daily awesome reports accompanied by photos and videos of our fur babies. We were like, "aww look at our cute fur babies! They look like they do when we're home!" She right away understood that our 3 kitties have their own personalities and quirks and figured out how to handle them. I wouldn't hesitate to book Canaan again and again.

Canaan was very detail oriented in caring for my pet and my home. She made sure to clean out the food and water bowls each time she came over (which was every other day) and made sure my kitty had a fresh litter box. Canaan also cleaned up some vomit around the house, due to my kitty's sensitive stomach.

I want to rate Canaan 100/5 stars. This woman is incredible and I felt to happy and safe with her watching over my babies. The daily updates, photos and checkins were amazing. I could actually enjoy my vacation without worrying. Canaan washed their dry and wet food bowls, did all their litter and unfortunate vomit and poop cleanup. But the real thing is my scaredy cat girl warmed up to her faster than anyone else in my family!! She has magical vibes my meows were able to sense and feel safe with. Three cats and they were all taken care of so well. Sincerely Canaan is the best cat mom you could want to watch your babies while you are away. I felt completely safe with her in my home. She is incredibly trustworthy and lovely! We only hope you're still in this business for all our future vacations to come! Chantal and Bryan

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
