I'm Cheryl
Cat Sitting in Euclid, OH
I'm excited to be a caregiver for any cat, though my specialty is in the "tough sells"—the shy ones, the hiders, the former ferals, and the cats who don't usually trust humans. My secret? A calm, quiet, and peaceful energy... If you’re looking for someone who truly "gets" cats, I’d love to help. While I am a state-certified wildlife rehabilitator, my heart has always belonged to the feline world. At 56, I can’t remember a single day of my life without a cat by my side.
I'm excited to be a caregiver for any cat, though my specialty is in the "tough sells"—the shy ones, the hiders, the former ferals, and the cats who don't usually trust humans. My secret? A calm, quiet, and peaceful energy. I never rush a cat; I let them set the pace and find joy in the slow, rewarding process of earning their friendship.
Beyond the kitty cuddles, you're getting a mature and reliable professional in your home. For the last 13 years, I’ve served as a ministry leader and public speaker. I understand the importance of integrity, responsibility, and communication. Whether I'm traveling for a conference or hosting classes online, my life is rooted in service and care.
When you go away, you can breathe easy knowing your home is in safe hands and your cat(s) are being cared for by someone who speaks their language.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?
I have two cats. The first is a cat that I adopted as an extremely feral, adult stray. This type of interaction is generally a slow, challenging, and time-consuming process that requires an abundance of patience, often taking months to years. It requires shifting a typically deeply ingrained fear of humans, usually resulting in a bond with one specific person. In this case, me. Her name is Vinnie, and she makes my world go round. Our second cat is named Biscuits. She's a Norwegian Forest Cat. We got her as a rescue, and it's been a delight having her in our home. She came to us quite shy (nearly feral). Her owner was living in a car for a while, and keeping her in a pet carrier. It wasn't a good situation, but now she has a wonderful life, and we're overjoyed to be a part of it.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?
Sometimes people don’t understand how they are perceived by animals. They forget that the cat is meeting them for the first time, and approach too presumptuously. They reach in right away with their hands. Their tone is excited and elevated. They don’t give the cat time to inspect them, size them up, or observe them calmly interacting with their owners first. To the pet, this can translate as "stranger danger" when they're approached by someone who has not yet been established (at least in their eyes) as a safe person.
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
Ideally things work out best in a small, quiet room where they have a couple of hiding spots to retreat to. I like to remove my shoes and get down on their level with my back turned their way so I’m not perceived as big, scary human. It’s important to speak in a calm tone and refrain from trying to grab them or make any sudden movements. Sometimes I will put soft instrumental music on lightly in the background. In much the same way that humans respond to music, it can have a similar calming effect on animals. It’s important to minimize noise and start out from a distance, giving them an opportunity to initiate interaction. High-value treats are sometimes a great motivational tool as well. I also have a scratching comb with a long handle until they warm up to human touch.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.
Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.
We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.
Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
