My name is Caitlin and I have almost always lived with multiple cats. I currently have 4 of my own, which are 2 pairs of siblings! Providing them with a full, enriched life is one of my main priorities in life. I am extremely passionate about learning applying knowledge about cat behavior. It’s vital to be in tune with how cats communicate their needs! I have layered experience with introducing cats throughout my life. Although at times it was a steep learning curve, this allowed me to gain vital lived experience with interpreting cat behaviors and what they are communicating. I also have experience cat sitting for a multitude of cat personalities. From extremely shy elderly cats, to fearful cats, to energetic kittens. Bringing enrichment, comfort, and patience to kitties is my main priority. Thank you for considering me to care for yours!

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

I spent a couple of years cat sitting for a coworker’s cat named Sweatheart. She found a different spot in her dad’s townhouse to hide in almost everyday, although her favorite was under the covers of his bed. She was about 17 years old and quite grumpy, but her aloofness was so cute!! I would visit her twice a day, clean her potty space, and freshen up her food and water. Afterwards, I would begin the hunt of finding her and ensuring all was well. One time, I brought her to a groomer’s appointment to help her dad out! I eventually stopped working with this coworker and moved away. When Sweatheart passed away about 6 months after I moved, her dad sent me a very heartfelt message explaining his gratitude for my kindness and patience with her during her last stretch of life.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

If I were to hire a cat sitter, I would want to know someone’s experience with being a reliable cat sitter for other people. Also, what do they consider cat sitting? Is it just checking on the necessities, or also spending time with them maybe playing with some toys? Additionally, I would want to trust that not only my cats would be safe and cared for in their presence, but also that my home would be kept secure and my belongings would be respected. Lastly, I would want to know about their experience with cats they have had. Have they experienced a health emergency with a cat or know what signs to look for? What does a happy cat mean to them?

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I like to start with the same baseline for all cats: let them come to you, maintain patience no matter what, and respect boundaries they set. Additionally, I approach all cats with caution, not making loud noises or quick movements that could make anyone anxious. With particularly timid or anxious cats, even individuals within this group can vary greatly. I would first gather as much information from their parents as possible, like what does and does not work for them. I would make sure to track and be able to reference what calms them down or brings them joy. In a perfect world, I would spend time with cats that I am taking care of and get in some enrichment time. For some shy kitties, my presence may stress them out too much, so I would just take care of the necessities and locate them for sign of life.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Eugene cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $27.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet!
