I'm Megan

Cat Sitting in Portland, OR

Hello! My name is Megan, I'm 35 years old, and I have had cats around me my entire life. We always had a cat during my childhood. I started caring for others’ cats at a young age and have years of experience caring for them in a professional manner.
I am fortunate enough to have my own kitty, Frankie, as well.

Life Update 4/21/26: I am back into full time pet care with a mostly open calendar due to a recent change in life plans.

*****I am not available 5:30pm-10pm on some nights.******

I am a huge cat lover and have a lot of respect for their varying personalities. There are few things more satisfying than the "not-so-friendly" or “scardey” cat choosing you.

I will feed and refresh water during my drop in visit, as well scoop the litterbox. I would love to cuddle and love on your kitties, but I understand that not all cats are on board with strangers...

I am a huge cat lover and have a lot of respect for their varying personalities. There are few things more satisfying than the "not-so-friendly" or “scardey” cat choosing you.

I will feed and refresh water during my drop in visit, as well scoop the litterbox. I would love to cuddle and love on your kitties, but I understand that not all cats are on board with strangers. Therefore, I can spend time playing with your cat, or I can completely avoid your cat! Whatever care it is that they need to be comfortable in their own home while you're away, I am happy to provide it.

I am capable of administering pills, drops, & topical medications.

I am an open communicator and will follow all Meowtel policies regarding updates during my visit, so you can look forward to receiving photos of your cat and/or my completed tasks. I'm a passionate photographer, so expect a cute photo or three.

I am an open book, so please feel free to ask me any questions. I want us both to have a healthy working environment and for your cat to be provided with the best care possible.

If I'm providing your cats with overnight care, I will treat your house as my own and promise to always leave the space as clean as I found it. I don't require much for a comfortable stay and tend to keep to the living area and kitchen of your home. If you have cameras, that's understandable and fine by me, of course. All I ask is to know where they are so that you and I can avoid any uncomfortable situations.

*I have no experience with providing shots to cats*

Learn More About Megan

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I've been sitting for cats and dogs since early 2016 and have had many word of mouth clients as well before coming to Meowtel in 2022. I've always had cats and have been responsible for family member's cats before moving into a more professional role.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

Getting to know their different personalities. I feel most comfortable hanging with cats all day and genuinely look forward to spending my time with them. I also enjoy taking photographs and spamming their owners with cute overload.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

One giant chonk named Frankie. She's a lover but also extremely independent so she's been a great companion to have as a pet sitter. She gets plenty of company at home while I'm gone from my roomie and her pets, but I always treat her as a drop in visit when I'm spending overnights away.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Transparency and communication are key. Don't be afraid to set expectations and don't be afraid to turn someone away for not meeting them. There will be another sitter out there that will exceed your expectations.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I gauge where they need reassurance the most, especially if it's their first time leaving their new cat. If they are concerned about separation anxiety, I provide my full schedule at the meet and greet to make sure I will be present enough for the client. If they are nervous about me successfully dispensing medication, I will be sure to bring it up in each check-in. I share lots of photos to help sooth the separation anxiety for the parent.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

No outside doors are left open or unlocked. I ask about the security of screens when sitting during the summertime. Cats do not exit the home in my care, even if they normally do with their parents. I do not feed them anything outside their parent-approved diet. I keep all cabinets closed, all cleaning products hidden after use, all internal doors left open. I like when a client has cameras if I'm not staying overnight. You never know with cats.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Minimally- May choose to travel for holidays in 2026.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I always let the cat come to me. I will sit and play calming music on my phone the first few minutes of a visit with a new cat. I won't pay them any attention while moving around to scoop and feed until they are ready to associate with me. I will not pet until I receive a head butt. Each visit I start this process from the beginning until trust is earned. If treats are in their diet, I will use treats for positive reinforcement, but never for bribery. As soon as they start feeling more comfortable, I'll bring a toy into the mix and see if they let their guard down enough to play. My lap is always open and ready for them when they decide they are.

Megan was amazing ! Daily updates and pictures. Very patient with our overly shy kitties and by the end of our trip they were playing with her and coming out of their safe places. We are so glad we found her.

Megan was always prompt with updates and was overall a great communicator. My cat is timid around strangers, and she was very patient and respectful of her boundaries. I came home to a happy, healthy cat.

Megan did such an amazing job with my two kitties. I just moved into a new place and immediately had to leave town for a wedding, so I was nervous that my boys would be under the bed the whole time that I was gone. Luckily they weren’t because Megan knew exactly what to do! Thank you! 💙

Megan was an incredible caretaker for our three cats. They have all big personalities requiring unique approaches and Megan was able to give each of then exactly what they needed to feel safe and cared about. Megan provided timely updates and photos and was extremely responsive even though we were in different time zones. I felt confident that my cats were in the best hands and was able to enjoy my vacation without worry. Thank you, Megan!

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Portland cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $30.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
