What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I have done it for many years since I could drive. I have have experience pet sitting for weeks at a time although now I am not able to stay at the home. I have been a nanny and that also meant caring for the animals. I love animals and enjoy getting to spend time with them any time I can!

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I love meeting new cats and learning to win them over. When you finally get a new cat to want to spend time with you it is so rewarding. Making the owner feel comfortable while they are away is so important because I know I am worried about Chai the whole time I am away.

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

I spent a week cat sitting and most of the time the cats did not come out of the main bedroom. Once they did, I felt so honored they wanted to spend time with me and I even woke up to them laying next to in the bed one morning.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

One cat named Chai. She is a Siamese female that I adore more than anything. She is 5 years young.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Make sure you find someone who is willing to do all that you ask. If you want pics while you are away then they should do that. Make sure they ask the necessary questions to where you feel they have a real understanding of expectations. Make sure they ask about allergies. Also make sure it seems they actually like cats.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I like to meet the cat parent and cat with the parent around. I want to be able to ask questions and make sure it is a good fit before the person leaves. Then ask questions about schedule and make sure we are all on the same page.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I check that there is nothing on that could injure that cat. Make sure no windows are open or any random doors. I will always survey the area before I leave and also ask about anything the owner is worried about and get vet info.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Depends on the holiday but I can be with enough notice if no plans are already made. I will make sure vacation mode is on so there is no confusion though!

What is your favorite cat toy?

I like the wand toys. It is fun to watch cats jump around and chase it. I like when they do the wiggles before they pounce.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I start on the floor close to where they are and pet the ground. If they are still scared I give them their space and grab a toy that might intrigue them and try to get them out. The most important part is to not scare them more so I like to give them space and when they do come out just remain calm and pet them!
