What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I’ve been cat sitting formally for about 10 years now, but I have over 25 years of hands-on experience with cats. I grew up with them, volunteered with a cat adoption organization, and have been the go-to sitter for friends and family for as long as I can remember.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

One of my favorite things about cat sitting is getting to know each cat’s unique personality. Some are playful and silly, others are more reserved and just want a comfy spot nearby–I love earning their trust and figuring out what makes them feel safe and happy. It’s super rewarding when a shy kitty starts to open up or when I can tell they’re relaxed and content while their humans are away.

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

One of my favorite cat sitting reservations is with a senior kitty I’ve cared for multiple times. Every time I walk in, he greets me with one loud, crunchy meow…and then stays completely silent for the rest of my visit! It never fails to crack me up. I have such a soft spot for senior cats—they have so much personality and charm, and I love giving them the gentle care and attention they deserve.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

Not at the moment–I’d love to, but my current home doesn’t allow pets. I’ve had cats most of my life though! I grew up with three: Jazzy (a super social, chatty calico), Max (a shy but sweet Siamese/tabby mix), and Cassie (a clever, slightly spoiled tabby who ran the house). I miss having cats around, which is a big reason I love being a sitter–I get my kitty fix while making sure yours are happy and well cared for!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

I’d say to trust your gut–look for someone who not only has experience, but also genuinely connects with your cat and cares about their well-being. Every kitty has their own personality, and a good sitter will take the time to understand what makes yours feel safe and happy. Communication is also key! Don’t be afraid to ask questions or share specific routines. The more your sitter knows, the more seamless the experience will be for you and your cat.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

Safety and security are always top of mind when I’m cat sitting. I make sure all doors and windows are locked, double-check for any potential hazards (like loose cords or open cabinets), and follow your home and pet care instructions closely. I also do a quick visual check each visit to make sure your kitty is safe, healthy, and comfortable. I’m respectful of your space and treat your home like I would my own–neat, secure, and with lots of love for your pets.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Yes, I’m usually available during holidays! I know that’s when travel plans are most common, so I do my best to keep my schedule open to help care for your kitty when you need it most.

What is your favorite cat toy?

My favorite cat toy has to be the laser pointer! It never fails to crack me up how quickly it riles kitties up–it’s like flipping a switch. I love watching them zoom around and try so hard to “catch” the little red dot. It’s a great way to get some energy out and have fun together!

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

For timid or anxious kitties, I always let them take the lead. I give them space, move slowly, and speak softly so they never feel overwhelmed. I’ll often just sit quietly nearby so they can get used to my presence without any pressure. Every cat is different, and I’m happy to go at their pace–whether that means gentle play, quiet company, or simply making sure they feel safe while keeping a respectful distance. One of my proudest moments was earning the trust of my husband’s grandma’s cat, who avoided everyone for years—after five years of patience and gentle approaches, she finally came over, rubbed her face on my hand, and let me pet her! Moments like that mean the world to me.
