Cat Sitting in Pittsburgh, PA
I started at Meowtel shortly after Ferdinand, my 18yo tabby, passed away. My family lost him 2 years after his 16 yo step-sister, Olive, passed. They had been in our family since they were kittens and we missed them so much. I decided to look into pet sitting as we waited for our next kitties to come along. Which, I am happy to say, we now have litter mates, Tilly and Lionel, in our lives :) They are so fun and adorable! I have really enjoyed pet sitting and they don't seem to mind sharing me too much. I get to check out new toys and have always learned something from the other kitty households.
I used to have to travel for longer periods and know how hard it can be to leave your pets. There would always be guilt that came along with a trip and the worry if they would be alright. I remember feeling such relief when I found a reliable & trustworthy cat sitter, especially as my kitties got older, had health issues and required medications... Hi!

I will give them as much attention as they will tolerate ;)
Some things to know if you would like to have a Meet & Greet to see if I am a good fit, I appreciate all the notes and details you care to provide. I will follow them. I get that animals can be quirky and I will follow whatever particulars that may work for you & your pets. I have a flexible schedule and should be able to accommodate specific times that would work best for me to visit. We can talk about your pet's usual schedule and how best we can keep that routine while you are away.
If you do book a reservation, you can expect many photos and lots of details of each visit. I always appreciated knowing how my kitties were doing. It really helped me to relax while I was away and I will gladly do the same for you. I do want to mention, you do not need to respond to these updates while you are away if you are busy, on vacation, etc. It is great if you do but I understand if you don't!

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?
I have been with Meowtel since 2023 and have had cats in my life for over 30 years so there has been A LOT of cat sitting trades and care over that time. I do learn from each kitty and each kitty household. Besides getting to know so many different kitties which is great, I get to see all sorts of cat toys, cat gadgets, little tricks that have worked for medications or sometimes things that seem obvious but that I just hadn't thought of. Cat Sitting has been a fun experience and in more than the obvious ways I initially imagined.
Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?
Yes! Tabby Littermates Lionel & Tilly. Lionel is our orange guy who likes to chase shadows and Tilly is our scrappy little brown+grey girl that does everything with added flair.
What is your favorite cat toy?
I haven't met a cat that didn't love the Cat Dancer! It is so simple and cats go crazy for it.
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
I've personally had timid cats and have cared for lots of anxious kitties. I always enter a home quietly and leave my bag or shoes somewhere near where they can check them out without being too close to me. I usually go to clean the litter or get their food which allows them time to sneak up and check out whatever I've left behind. I may sit on the floor to allow them to come out if they want, a lot of time they will but sometimes it may take a couple of visits. Some cats surprise their owners and are braver than expected. The kitties always take the lead and I adapt to how they are feeling on that particular visit.

Janice far exceeded my expectations and I would give her 10000 stars if I could. Upon our m&g she took very thorough notes about my cats and was very interested in caring for them like I do on a day to day basis. Her mission seemed to be to care for them so they had no lapse in their routine so neither the cats or I would be stressed about my trip. Having Janice look after my cats allowed me to enjoy my trip stress free and not have to worry if my cats were ok at home. She sent detailed updates every day and took so many pictures of them. And she made sure everyone got ample attention and play time. I can’t say enough good things about her. I am already considering booking more trips so my cats can see their new friend again soon!

Janice was such a delight and took amazing care of my cats! My prior sitter backed out last minute and I was in a panic to find someone a few days before I left for a trip. Due to high demand during holidays, sitters on Meowtel have the option to set their own holiday price increase, which can be found in the rates section of their profiles. If your reservation falls within three (3) days before and/or after a federal holiday, or on the holiday itself, a holiday surcharge, determined by your sitter, will be added to your reservation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

Pittsburgh cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $27.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.
Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.
We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Janice was as always responsive and went above and beyond to care for our cat. Our cat is old and spends a lot of time sleeping but Janice took the time to show her squirrel and bird videos during her visits and it seemed to engage Molly.
