Hi, I’m Rachel and have been a cat sitter for over 15 years and a shelter volunteer for the past 4 years. I am RECOVER Initiative Pet CPR Certified, American Red Cross Cat & Dog First Aid Certified, and a Fear Free® Certified professional pet sitter.

My mission is to provide compassionate, stress-free care that honors each cat’s unique personality and emotional needs. As a certified Fear Free® pet sitter, I use gentle, low-stress handling techniques to ensure every visit feels safe, calm, and enriching. I strive to create a peaceful environment where cats feel respected, understood, and cared for while their humans are away, giving both cats and their guardians complete peace of mind.

Cats are the most regal creatures and leave paw prints on our hearts. I grew up with cats and am a current proud cat owner to my six year old fur child, Bruce Wayne. I have experience with all cats of different ages, shapes, and sizes. I also have experience caring for cats with specialized needs (FeLV+/FIV+), disabilities, neonatal kittens and pregnant/new mother cats. I have been trained to do bottle, gruel, and syringe feedings for kittens of all life stages. Felines are my passion and I love them with every fiber of my being. I have volunteered with Austin Pets Alive for the past four years and love working with the neonatal nursery and FeLV+ units. I am also a volunteer with Shadow Cats. I am flexible with visit times and am willing to travel up to a 10-30 mile radius to take care of your sweet kitties.

Fun fact about me: I’m also a certified Holy Fire® III Reiki Master. I love doing reiki on pets.

Learn More About Rachel

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I grew up with cats starting at a very young age. I began pet sitting for family, friends, and neighbors, then expanded my clientele from there.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

Meeting new cats and learning about their personalities. Cats can teach us a lot about the world and are beacons of light and love.

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

My favorite cat sitting reservation was with a return client. They have two very shy kitties that warmed up to me with time and patience. I am so happy that they now let me give them lots of love and head scratches. We even cuddle together on the couch now.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I do have one adorable kitty at the moment. He is a six year old black domestic shorthair named Bruce Wayne.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Ask your potential sitter as many questions as you’d like! We are here to serve you and your cats. It is important to ensure that all of you and your cats needs are being met by your sitter. Hiring the same cat sitters regularly is a smart move so that your cats become familiar and comfortable with us caring for them. **I highly recommend utilizing complementary 30 minute in person meet and greets, especially if your cats are timid. It takes time to gain a cat’s trust and help them feel comfortable.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I will plan a meet and greet with the cat parent and their cat after the booking is confirmed. At the meet and greet, I will jot down any important intake notes and details about caring for their cat, introduce myself to the cat, and have social interactions with the cat if they are comfortable with new people.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

Staying vigilant, alert, and present during cat sitting is crucial. I am also very thorough with every task that is requested from the cat parent. It’s very important to maintain a safe environment for your cat to thrive in.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Yes, I am usually available during the holidays. If there is no availability on my calendar, please feel free to message me and I’m happy to see if we can work something out.

What is your favorite cat toy?

That’s a great question. I tend to love a nice wand toy with feathers or bells, catnip kickers, or treat puzzles. Enrichment and play are crucial to a cats well-being.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I respect their space by keeping my distance and letting them decide if they want to interact with me first. It takes time and patience to build trust with new cats. I like to leave out treat offerings, play a vet approved cat calming music playlist, and keep my distance to show timid and anxious cats that they are safe in my presence.

Rachel is a detailed and attentive sitter. She took time to ask thorough questions about our cats before we left so she could provide the best care for them. The cats loved her and she provided great updates after every visit. Rachel went above and beyond to make sure the cats’ routines were consistent. We have peace of mind knowing our cats are in such good hands with her!

Rachel was communicative and treated our kitties with respect and kindness! We have one cat who is just the pickiest eater in the world and she worked to ensure he ate at least a couple bites of food each night. We will definitely hire her again when we need someone!

Rachel was great! This was my 2nd time booking her and she went above and beyond. My feeder stopped working the first day of my trip and she was able to pop in a day early to make sure my kitties got breakfast. She shared great photos and video every day, and even got my shy boy to love up on her. I'll definitely book with her again in the future.

This month

Rachel is fabulous! She changed her approach for the different personalities of my 2 different cats. She sent multiple photos/videos with her updates, and kept me in the loop on how things were going while I was out of town. I'll be rebooking with her again soon.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Austin cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $26.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
