Ever since then I've been an animal lover adopting rescues, saving abandoned cats and horses, or snuggling with my dogs. Growing up on a farm means that I've seen it all! Currently, I am a contractor with two rescue cats (one cat I found two years ago on the highway). I also fly around the country delivering kittens to their forever homes as a fun side hobby. My experience with cats range from new born kittens that require bottle feedings to older cats struggling with dementia. I am looking to help others take care of their beloved cats as if they were my own!

Learn More About Mary

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

What I enjoy most about cat sitting is the opportunity to bond with cats and provide pet parents with peace of mind. Building a connection with each cat, getting to know their unique personalities, and earning their trust is incredibly rewarding. Whether it's through playtime, cuddles, or simply being present, the bond formed during cat sitting is special and fulfilling. Additionally, knowing that I'm helping pet parents feel secure knowing their furry friends are well cared for while they're away brings me great satisfaction. Being able to provide love, attention, and a sense of security to both the cats and their owners is truly gratifying and makes cat sitting a joyous experience for me.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I have two cats myself named Grace (9 yr old female tabby cat) and Chip (2 yr old male black cat). That are polar opposites and behave like siblings. But secretly love each other and hate being separated for any reason.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

When beginning work with a new cat parent, I initiate an initial consultation to understand their cat's needs and routines. This involves discussing feeding schedules, medical history, and any specific care instructions. I meticulously document all relevant information and clarify my services and rates upfront. Building trust is paramount, so I prioritize clear communication and professionalism. Throughout the cat sitting period, I provide regular updates to the owner, ensuring peace of mind. I follow up after the consultation to address any lingering concerns and confirm details. By adhering to this process, I aim to establish a positive working relationship built on reliability, care, and mutual understanding.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Yes, since my family is local I do not travel for holidays and am therefore usually available.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

Patience. When dealing with timid or anxious cats, patience is key. I take a gentle and slow approach, allowing the cat to gradually become comfortable with me. I avoid sudden movements or loud noises that could startle them further. Instead, I give them space and let them approach me on their own terms. Using soft, reassuring tones, I speak to them calmly and offer treats or toys as a form of positive reinforcement. It's important to respect their boundaries and not force interaction if they're not ready. I provide a quiet and secure environment where they can feel safe and gradually build trust over time. Understanding that each cat has its own unique personality and needs, I adjust my approach accordingly, always prioritizing their comfort and well-being.

My cat loves having people around, and over the last year has had trouble eating regularly, especially when I go out of town. I just went on my longest trip ever and was really worried. Mary was amazing. My cat loved her right away, and Mary sent me multiple videos and pictures every day. It was such a relief seeing my kitty so happy and knowing she was in good hands. Will absolutely book Mary again and recommend her to everyone!

Mary was excellent with Henry the cat and with me as the anxious-about-leaving-Henry- human. Henry can be standoffish with anyone new or anyone that’s not me and Mary was super respectful of his space and earned his trust by giving him his private space while also maintaining his routine. She used all the phrases he’s used to hearing, she gave him treats at his preferred time and tossed them for him just like I do. She always offered to play with him and even let him stop to drink and was ready to play again when he was ready to go, just like I do. Mary sent me tons of details just like I prefer. Whenever I need to leave for a trip I feel lots better knowing Mary is here for Henry!

Mary was very responsive throughout the process. we were glad to have a chance to meet with her ahead of time and with her attention to our cat's needs. she even went the extra mile by reading aloud in an attempt to lure out our seriously shy kitty. alas, the strategy did not work, but it well reflects her great care and understanding of kitties.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Arlington cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $31.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet!
