Cat Sitting in Ashburn, VA

Hello, it's a pleasure to virtually meet you. Let me share a bit about myself. I've been caring for animals for about 20 years, starting with dog walks and cat sitting. I spent about 2 years working as a vet tech assistant in a cat-specific vet clinic. This experience has made me better at giving medications and fluids and recognizing when a cat isn't feeling their best. I am also certified in Cat & Dog First Aid. Currently, I work as a project manager for a construction company in Maryland. One of my favorite daily activities is spotting cats in apartment or condo windows... One of my favorite daily activities is spotting cats in apartment or condo windows.

I have two wonderful cats, Chance and Harley, although they can be naughty about 50% of the time. I love cats because each has a unique personality, and it takes work (and bribery) to earn their trust. I also feel that they have more quirks than dogs. For instance, my cat Harley enjoys lying on my chest and smelling my breath by shoving her nose into my mouth. It's odd, but it's what makes her unique.

Over the years, I've gained a few bonus cats (cat clients) that I treat as my own. I love to bring them new toys and treats and spend a lot of time playing with them. And thanks to the digital age, most of my images are of my cats or bonus cats. I would be more than happy to provide additional information upon request. Thank you.

Learn More About Marisa

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I've had about 20 years experience with pet care/cat care, with a lot of repeat clients. I've had a few cat care clients for over 8 years. I also have a few years experience working in a vet clinic that specializes in cat care.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I get to interact with different cats with different personalities. It's hard to have a bad day when you get to interact with a cat. Even just sitting there talking to the kitty is great.

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

My favorite reservation was when I was able to gain the trust of two semi-feral cats. I had been taking care of them for years, always from a distance. And they eventually let me scratch their heads and play with them. It was probably the best feeling in the world.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

Yes. I have two and their names are Chance & Harley.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Trust your gut and be observant. Sounds cliche, but if you feel something is wrong, then go with it. You need to feel completely comfortable with who is watching your cat. When interviewing a cat sitter, pay attention to how they interact with your cat and with you.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

Typically, I will tell them a little about my background and answer any questions they may have. I pay attention to the cat(s) and how they are interacting with me. I also like to have the cat parent tell me about their cat(s). Their quirks and habits and such. I usually have them fill out a form that I created that gives important information, such as their vet.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I'm always observant. When leaving, I try to make sure that the cat is busy with something so that I don't have to worry about them trying to slip out the door. I usually do a head count before leaving. I also will look around the general area to make sure there isn't anything that the cat has gotten in to. I also have this habit of looking at the ceilings to make sure there aren't any water leaks. I once was housesitting and the families basement ceiling caved in due to a water leak. Thankfully, they had the kitty on vacation with them.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Yes. I don't really travel to see any family as they all live far away. And I don't have a lot of contacts where I live. It's just my boyfriend and I and he usually travels home for Christmas.

What is your favorite cat toy?

I don't really have one. My favorite cat toy is whichever one gets the cat to play and have fun.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

Very slowly & carefully. I keep my distance and speak softly. I usually sit or lay down on the floor so that I'm on the same level as the cat. Depending on the cats demeaner, I may approach at a slow pace. I may try a few things to try to comfort the kitty. Such as playing with a string toy or putting down some treats. The key is to just make sure the cat knows they are safe and that I'm not there to hurt them.

Marisa was amazing! My very shy and very nervous cat actually came out of her hiding spots and let Marisa pet her and play with her. That’s huge!!! She constantly sent me photos and updates and I was so relieved. I would 100% recommend Marisa and definitely rebooking her for the next time I am out of town. She’s awesome

Marisa was able to open up my shy cat and also figured out new toys they like. They were excited to see me when I returned but they were happy and looked relaxed when I got home. This was my 2nd trip using her services and she is a 6/5

Marisa has sitted for my girls multiple times and from jump she has gone above and beyond to make sure they were not only taken care of but also loved as they both have separation anxiety. Her updates are detailed and thorough and make me feel assured my girls are doing well when I can’t be there! I know they are safe and happy when I’m gone.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Ashburn cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $32.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
