What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

While I’m new to this platform for cat sitting, I’ve been caring for my own/my friend’s cats for 10+ years.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I have two beautiful girls, Luna (7 y/o) and Stella (3 y/o). Luna is a tortie and my prim and proper lady. She doesn’t have time for her sister’s shenanigans but any toy with feathers kickstarts her zoomies! She keeps me accountable for the cheese tax always! Stella is an orange tabby - enough said! She is wild and I lovingly refer to her as my sour patch kid. She loves cuddles and will turn around and give me a nice swat in the same breath. She’s a talker and always has something to say - especially if she thinks she deserves some extra food or treats. They keep me on my toes for sure!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

I would tell them to look for someone with experience with cats in a home environment and to trust your gut! The chemistry between the sitter and the cat obviously needs to work, but the chemistry with you is also just as important. You want to be able to trust the person looking after such an important part of your family.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I like to get to know my potential clients before jumping in. Usually it’s a few questions about the parents first - just to break the ice and create comfort between us. Then I like to hear in their own words how they’d describe the personality and character of their cats. This helps me to see the home dynamic and any potential behavior issues. I’m not one to turn down a job because of a difficult cat, I want to support the specific needs all the families that come to me, I just like to know what I’m walking into beforehand. After we talk logistics of schedules and expectations they have, then a meet and greet with the cat and family happens. I’m flexible in most aspects because I want my clients comfortable with the agreement.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

Your cat’s safety and your home’s security are non-negotiable. I follow customized care plans, maintain vigilant routines, and communicate proactively so you can relax while away. Keys are handled discreetly, and emergencies are planned for - because peace of mind matters!

Are you usually available during holidays?

I am available most holidays. My family is in Iowa so Thanksgiving and Christmas can depend on travel plans. All other holidays I remain in the area and would be available.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I have a timid, anxious, furry drama queen of my own at home - Luna. She was not trusting of me or her new environment when I first brought her home. I gave her space but stayed in her general area so she could watch me and understand that I was here to love her. I would extend treats and toys but wouldn’t hover to make her feel unsafe. If all else fails, I simply sit with them - usually she was hiding in my closet so I’d lay on my bed or sit on the floor and play on phone or do a craft or just talk to her. It seems kind of silly but cats are so smart and perceptive. It had to be on her terms and she was worth the work. All cats are.
