Cat Sitting in Leesburg, VA

I had cats of my own for over 20 years before marrying someone who’s allergic. I’m still very much a cat person even if I’ve had to pivot my own pet-parenthood to dogs (and rats and horses). Cat-sitting is great because I can still get a kitty fix and my husband can still breathe.

I love a social cat who wants to hang out with me, but if your cat is shy or nervous around strangers I have no problem quietly sitting with a book and letting them come to me on their own terms. And if they never come around to me, that’s okay. I’m not going to try to force them to let me pet them if they don’t want that...

I love a social cat who wants to hang out with me, but if your cat is shy or nervous around strangers I have no problem quietly sitting with a book and letting them come to me on their own terms. And if they never come around to me, that’s okay. I’m not going to try to force them to let me pet them if they don’t want that. I’ll always try to at least get eyes on the cat during a sit so I know they’re okay, but if that just means catching a glimpse from across the room, I get it. I’m a stranger, it’s their house, I don’t blame them for being wary!

While it’s been a bit since I’ve had my own cats, I’m well-versed in giving cats pills or ear drops or applying topical ointments. I’ve also given client cats liquid medications recently, and have given injectable medications to dogs (my own and clients’), so while I haven’t yet done an injectable for a cat I’m familiar with giving animals injections in general.

My daughter and I volunteered for over two years at the Loudoun animal shelter, primarily in the cat adoption room, and only stopped recently because we were having a hard time finding volunteer time slots that worked with her schedule. We hope to go back to it in the future, though.

Learn More About Erin

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I had my own cats for the first half of my life, and have cat-sat off and on since middle school. Now that I can’t have cats of my own, I love still being able to spend time with them through sitting. I’m a star sitter of both cats and dogs on another popular platform, and am happy to share reviews from those clients if you ask!

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

Not being able to have cats of my own now because of my husband’s allergies, I love being able to still get some kitty time from sitting for others! I grew up with two orange tabbies (Copper & Teeny), followed by a tortie (Scarlet) who was a real character. She was a chatty lady; I suspect she had some Siamese in her based on her meow. She was also an acrobat & once jumped from the counter to the top of the fridge on the clear other side of the kitchen to get to a batch of blueberry muffins I’d put in the one place I didn’t think she could get to—that cat loved blueberry muffins to a degree that was a little baffling.

Are you usually available during holidays?

We don’t tend to travel during holidays, so I’m almost always available for them (except for Father’s Day, which always falls around my husband’s birthday so we will often do a long weekend trip for that…but that’s probably not one of the holidays people probably need a sitter for very often!).

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I’m a stranger in their space—I get being wary of that! I will always try to encourage the cat to approach by sitting quietly in the same room but not too close, perhaps talking softly to them if that doesn’t scare them off, having a hand out for them to sniff if they want to. If the cat never warms to me, that’s fine; I won’t ever force an interaction on them. Typically after a day or two even shy cats will be interested enough to at least peek out from their hiding place and let me see them for a proof-of-life check, but if not, as long as their food and water and litterbox indicate that they’re eating and drinking, most clients understand that that may be the best we get.

We had a wonderful experience with Erin. She made a point to get photos of both our elusive cats on each visit. It was a relief to see they were comfortable with a visitor in the house! She communicated well and was a pleasure to work with. Highly recommend.

Erin was wonderful! She sent so many photos and thoughtful updates on how Zara was doing, which gave me so much peace of mind. Knowing Zara was happy and well cared for allowed me to fully enjoy my wedding day without worrying. I would absolutely trust Erin with Zara again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a caring, reliable sitter.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Leesburg cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $31.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet!
