What I love most about cat sitting is getting to know each cat as an individual. Some greet me at the door ready to make a new friend. Others prefer to observe from a safe distance, conduct a few background checks, and decide on their own timeline whether Iām acceptable company. Iām happy with both.
Iām especially patient with shy, cautious, quirky, and slow-to-warm cats. I pay attention to body language, respect boundaries, and let each cat set the pace.
Iām also a longtime animal photographer at heart. I started trying to photograph my cats as a child ā much to my motherās frustration when she had to pay to develop roll after roll of blurry cat pictures ā and later used photography and storytelling while volunteering with an animal rescue... I follow care instructions closely, pay attention to changes in behavior or routine, and treat both your pets and your home with care.
Iāve shared my life with cats since childhood and also have experience with fostering, kitten socialization, TNR, and administering several types of medication.
I offer morning, midday, and evening visits throughout my service area. Availability and pricing may vary somewhat by location.

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?
I've been a Meowtel sitter for more than four years and have completed 100+ reservations, from single-cat households to multi-cat families and everything from social lap cats to formerly feral kitties. I've also fostered and socialized kittens, participated in TNR, and volunteered with animal rescue. I've lived with cats nearly my entire life, but professional sitting has taught me just how different every cat ā and every household routine ā can be.
What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?
Getting to know each cat's personality. I love figuring out what makes a particular kitty them ā whether they're a fearless greeter, cautious observer, shameless snuggler, tiny chaos agent, or all of the above. I also love capturing that personality in photos and videos. I've been photographing animals since childhood, and one of my favorite challenges is getting the expression, action shot, or funny little moment that makes their person say, āYep. That's exactly my cat.ā
Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?
Yes! Cheese is my fluffy orange girl ā wild, sweet and convinced our dog is her best friend. Her littermate Brent is a gray-and-white tabby who's generally the chill oneā¦until he isn't. CeCe is our tortie princess and brings the requisite tortitude. They share the house with Mack, our 90-lb boxer/Great Dane mix and former foster āfail.ā Cheese and Brent were part of a litter of five kittens we rescued from a storm drain in 2022; I fostered and socialized the litter until their siblings were adopted, and their mom and likely dad were trapped and fixed through TNR.
What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?
I start by reviewing the cat's profile and care instructions before our Meet & Greet so I already have a sense of their routine and any questions I want to ask. During the meeting, I learn where everything is, go over feeding, litter, medications, favorite toys, hiding spots, quirks and household details, and ā most importantly ā meet the cats on their terms. During the reservation, I send a detailed update with photos/videos after every visit and communicate promptly if anything seems unusual.
How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?
I'm pretty compulsive about the little things: confirming doors are completely latched behind me, checking that cats are accounted for before opening exterior doors, following feeding and medication instructions carefully, and noticing changes in eating, litter box use, behavior or the home itself. I also try to leave things as I found them and don't share identifying information or photos of a client's home publicly without permission. If something doesn't look right, I'd much rather contact you than make an assumption.
Are you usually available during holidays?
Usually, yes ā holidays are some of my busiest times of year, so I strongly recommend booking early. I limit the number of reservations I accept so I can give each household appropriate time and avoid building an unrealistic driving schedule. Existing clients are always welcome to reach out even if my calendar looks busy, since availability sometimes depends on location.
What is your favorite cat toy?
Whatever that particular cat thinks is the greatest invention in feline history. I've met cats unimpressed by an entire basket of expensive toys who lose their minds over a pipe cleaner, cardboard box or crumpled piece of paper. For actual toys, though, interactive wand toys are hard to beat ā especially when I'm trying to get a good mid-air action photo.
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
I let them set the pace. I won't pull a hiding cat out or force interaction just so I can say we became friends. I pay attention to body language, keep my movements and voice calm, and use distance, play, treats, slow blinks, or simply quiet company depending on what the cat seems comfortable with. Sometimes success means cuddles; sometimes it means a cat who previously hid stays in the room with me. Earning that trust little by little is one of my favorite parts of cat sitting.

Due to high demand during holidays, sitters on Meowtel have the option to set their own holiday price increase, which can be found in the rates section of their profiles. If your reservation falls within three (3) days before and/or after a federal holiday, or on the holiday itself, a holiday surcharge, determined by your sitter, will be added to your reservation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

Richmond cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $31.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Kat was terrific! We highly recommend her. Having recently moved, we knew weād have to trust a stranger with our beloved kitty. Our concerns were put to rest as soon as we met Kat. At the meet and greet, our normally shy cat, warmed up to her right away. While we were away, she followed all of our instructions for litter boxes and feeding.
