Cat Sitting in Spokane, WA

Meowdy, nice to meet ya! My name is Kaylee and I have expansive experience with our feline friends.

Quick notes: years of professional experience with animals-I know how to give most medications, and I can handle most personalities from the biters to the hiders.

Looooong version:
I have a past work history including veterinary assisting and I worked for 5 years at a municipal animal shelter with multiple years as the foster coordinator. (If you've fostered for me in the past, Hi!!) I have plenty of experience with every medicine under the sun, including insulin injections, oral meds, and transdermal meds!

I've met and dealt with every type of feline behavior issue and know how to work around them...

I've met and dealt with every type of feline behavior issue and know how to work around them. I'm happy to interact with your cat as they prefer. If they want some cuddle time or play time I'm happy to oblige. I'm also happy to leave them be and let them watch me judgmentally, or even try to intimidate me out of the house!

I also have some breed-specific experience as you may have noticed due to Ms. Persephone pictured with me. I know the ins and outs of hairless cat care, including all the special cleaning and care needed. On the opposite end I also own longhairs and am familiar with daily brushing routines for cats that can't keep up on their own.

My experience working with animals and fostering myself has seen me with all manner of special needs pets. I have experience with deaf cats, blind cats, toothless cats, CH cats, extremely elderly cats and all ages of kitten!

So don't hesitate to ask if you have a cat with specific needs, I can probably handle anything you throw my way!

Learn More About Kaylee

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I have been cat sitting for friends and family for years, including friends-of-friends, friends of family, that sort of thing! I have a lot of personal experience with medications and very nervous cats.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

The cats, of course!! I've loved cats since I could talk. Meeting a new cat is always something of a fun challenge as you have to learn their personality and mannerisms, how they communicate with people. I'm also a bit of a genetics nerd with cats so I love seeing interesting coat colors and patterns.

Can you tell us about your favorite cat sitting reservation?

I've cat sit this absolutely gorgeous, black, one-eyed cat. He is so sweet but also very anxious. Once we got to know each-other he would approach me, but he would trot up excitedly while also hissing at me! He's a character and always has to have a big sniff before he really believes I'm really me. I learned later that this is a behavior he picked up only towards me. When he meets other people he doesn't hiss, but any time he comes to greet me he will hiss while running right at me.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

5 kitties for me, Goblin, Kohi, Otter, Persephone, and Bansidhe! Persephone is my darling sphynx (private rehome, sorry! I do not have any sphynx breeder connections!) Goblin is my one-eyed wonder, Bansidhe is deaf, and Kohi is toothless and on daily meds for stomatitis.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

Chat first about expectations, then if everything works out from there a quick meeting and visit to get acquainted with the home and the cat.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Generally I am very available during holidays! My family live in town so I don't go anywhere for holidays that would prevent me from doing visits.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

The first step is always checking in with an owner's reccomendation. They know their cats best, after all. My typical method is always to go slow. You never want to chase down a timid cat or make them feel like you're a threat. It's all about taking it slow and letting them come to you as much as possible. I tend to try speaking 'cat' with them, giving relaxed body language, slow blinks when im looking at them, not staring, using a low, calm voice. That sort of thing.

Kaylee was kind and patient with my old grumpy kitty. She communicated well and was able to change strategies part way through our vacation when our first planned medication administration approach wasn’t working.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Spokane cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $26.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet!
