Growing up in a household with cats, I have developed a keen understanding of their needs and behaviors... Greetings to you and your feline friends. My name is Matthew Harnack. As a lifelong cat enthusiast, I have always found joy and comfort in the company of these regal creatures. Their diverse personalities have always fascinated me and made each interaction with them unique and rewarding.

My current living situation does not permit me to have a cat of my own so I’m happy to have the opportunity to spend time with your feline companions.
I am committed to creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for the cats I look after. My approach to cat sitting is centered around respect for their independence, while also ensuring they receive the affection and attention they want. I like to encourage playful activities, maintain a routine feeding schedule, and providing a comforting presence. I’ve be cat sitting with Meowtel for several the years. I also have extensive cat sitting experience, taking care of my parents, cats and friends when they travel.
What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?
I love getting to know new cats and gaining thier trust. It’s the best when a shy cat wants my attention!

Yes I’m usually available during holidays.
What is your favorite cat toy?
I’m partial to simple feathers on a string.
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
If a cat is timid or anxious, I give them their independence and allow them to come to me without being too forceful.

*Im a meowtel sitter myself and this was my first time using the service* Honestly this was the worst experience I've ever had with a pet sitter. Matthew told us specific times that he would be at our home to take care of our cats and he was not there, it seemed as if he simply forgot about them. There was not one time that he actually showed up when he said he would without myself or Meowtel needing to get involved. I have special needs cats and it was already stressful leaving them, not knowing if they were even being taken care of ruined the first part of my vacation. It got to the point where I was ready to book a flight home but luckily had friends step in and help. He was 100% unreliable and untrustworthy. Matthew didnt bother to make sure our cats finished their meds, left food out so the friends arrived to a house of ants, and just in general it was clear he didn't provide them with the care he communicated he would. As a Meowtel sitter myself I was honestly horrified at the blasé attitude and had thought Meowtel did a better job at vetting sitters. I do appreciate the fact he refunded me for the entire stay, not just the remainder of the trip, but I would have paid double to be able to enjoy my entire vacation without worrying about the safety of my cats.

He's great with the cats! He sent pictures of them and made sure they ate. I was amazed that they were OK being out and about while he was there. Usually they hide from people they aren't very familiar with. This was the second time he fed them and took care of the litter boxes and I will definitely request him in the future.

Matthew was great from the minute we met for the meet and greet through our entire time away. He has great energy and immediately bonded with our cats, even the shy one. He provided daily feedback and pics that helped ease our minds and made us miss them just a little bit less.

Due to high demand during holidays, sitters on Meowtel have the option to set their own holiday price increase, which can be found in the rates section of their profiles. If your reservation falls within three (3) days before and/or after a federal holiday, or on the holiday itself, a holiday surcharge, determined by your sitter, will be added to your reservation.
These are the date ranges in 2026 to which the holiday surcharge applies:

- February 13-19: Presidents Day
- May 22-28: Memorial Day
- June 16-22: Juneteenth
- July 1-7: July 4th

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

Vancouver cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $28.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.
Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.
We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.
