The best thing you can do for me is communicate your needs and wants in terms of care, timing, photos, medications, play, etc. I have experience with medication in multiple forms and tend to handle cats with medication needs about 50% of the time. I have had shy cats, playful cats, stubborn cats, and old, sickly cats. I know cats can be as loving and opinionated as humans in how they choose to interact with people and live their lives. I also know the difficulty of finding trusted sitters to stop in and take quality care of your fluffs. I am happy to meet them where they’re at in terms of friendliness and proximity and if you want them to not be alone but are timid, I am happy to bring a book and just exist in their space.
About me:
My name is Laura and I believe this is the best second job I could ever have. I have had 1-3 cats at every point in my life and tend to like them more than most humans. Growing up, the family cats were my responsibility, I volunteered at a local shelter, pet sat any neighborhood and family friends pets, and when I moved to Michigan to continue my career I adopted 2 little kittens found in a trash can and they have become much of my personality.

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?
I have been using Meowtel for over a year and have had over 50 completed reservations. I have done more often 2 x a day for over a week, overnights for over a week, and as short as a one-day 20 minute stop in. I grew up helping with neighborhood cats and dogs. I had to IV fluids into a geriatric cat. I also raised stray kittens found in a window well and found them all homes, including their young mom who became a mouser at a local barn!
What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?
I think this is the most fulfilling second job. Not only do I get to care for cats, but as a pet owner I know I get to ease your potential worries about leaving your pet alone. I love when a cat that is more shy warms up to me and I get to surprise their pet parents with how friendly they are being!
Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?
I have 2 at the moment, Jethro Gibbs and Sasuke. They were found in a trash can during Covid at only 4 weeks old but are my best friends. They are surprisingly around, like in wanting to always be attached at my hip and play or nap on me. One is great with people and wants to make all the friends. The other is very shy and scared and doesn’t like ‘new’ in any form and glares from across the room at guests.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?
Please be direct and honest with your desires! The more I know about your cat and what you want from me, the smoother I can make the reservation. If you have mediation requirements, I do require the meet & greet to be during a medication time so I can first-hand witness how you like that handled.
What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?
Prior to accepting a reservation I try to confirm if there are any medication needs. If so, I ask the required timings, frequency, and how the cat tends to react to their meds. This is to ensure that I can confidently hit all the requirements for best care.
How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?
Whenever entering a home, I lead with my foot to make sure pets cannot try to run out, I also lock the door behind me to make sure no one else can enter behind me. When there’s windows open I was not expecting I will message to confirm that’s desired. Once I wa doing overnight and noticed a light was on that I was confident I didn’t leave on, so I reached out to the owner and they did indeed have someone stop over to pick something up and forgot to let me know. I think that attention to detail I do for the house security and my own safety also translates into how diligent I am when preparing and administering mediations and when befriending a cat, patience and not forcing anything tend to be the best solution from my experience.
Are you usually available during holidays?
I am unfortunately not around this year for Labor Day, nor Thanksgiving or Christmas as I will be with my family back in the Midwest, but I am around most other federal holidays!
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
One of my cats is very loving with me but terrified of life. He hisses when a shoe moves into a place he didn’t know it would be. He hides whenever guests are over. For your cats, I would want your desires to be known, if you want me to try to befriend them, calm, slow movements and trying to let them smell me. I can bring a book and exist in their space. I can lure them with treats if you want. The big thing is not being a loud or fast moving new item into their space. I don’t want to stress them out but in my heart I hope they will eventually want to be my friend or at least tolerate my presence in their territory.

this is the second time I've had Laura stay overnight, and I can't seem to remember her from a year ago. shy Guy was willing to come out within about 20 minutes instead of hiding for a day and a half. Laura was able to give medications to everybody who needed them even though my itty bitty kitty and decided to start fighting them. or she had a couple of suggestions that I've tried since and have worked wonderfully. she even puts up with my boy waking her in the middle of the night for the necessary 2:00 a.m. cuddles, it's only she had ideas on how to break him of that habit

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

Tempe cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $25.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

It's always tough having to choose a cat sitter - even harder when having to choose a new one after moving. Thankfully Laura turned out to be fantastic. She has a cat similar in personality to mine, making adjusting easy. She keeps fantastically detailed notes making planning, and then being away from home, really easy and stress free.
