Cat Sitting in Alameda, CA

Hi! I'm Kayla!
They say if you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life. I can say with certainty that I love being a professional cat sitter! I've been a cat admirer my whole life, and getting to care for cats as my job is a dream come true.

I grew up in a home with many loveable cats (along with a menagerie of other pets). I have lots of experience caring for cats of all ages and temperaments. I love to get to know their individual needs, quirks and personalities. My two cats, Moosie and Beanie, are my favorite little buddies. They love to "help me" with my other job as a graphic designer. Moosie has even starred in some of my creations!

In order to best the care for my kitty clients, I am Pet First-Aid certified (including Pet CPR) through the American Red Cross program. I have personal experience with giving cats pills, eye drops, ointments, and insulin injections, as well as caring for picky eaters, and shy friends...

In order to best the care for my kitty clients, I am Pet First-Aid certified (including Pet CPR) through the American Red Cross program. I have personal experience with giving cats pills, eye drops, ointments, and insulin injections, as well as caring for picky eaters, and shy friends. I have plenty of experience introducing myself to new pets, and I'm very sensitive to their need for space and respect. I know everyone is unique, and has their own preferences and timelines when it comes to warming up to new humans.

If you use clicker training with your cat, I'm happy to continue their training while you're away. I clicker train with my little genius, Beanie daily. He loves training time, and it's a great bonding and trust-building experience for us.

For scheduling, if you have specific times of day that you need visits, you can reach out to me before requesting a reservation by using the "Ask a Question" button. I almost certainly will be able to accommodate your needs, but this way we can ensure I have availability at the specific times you need before you send a deposit.

I look forward to building trust both with your cats, and with you! Your space is personal, and I will be as respectful as possible. I am fully COVID-vaccinated, and have received the bivalent COVID-19 booster. I am happy to wear a mask at the meet and greet. Please have a spare key ready for me at the meet and greet, and be ready to walk through your feeding, medication, training, litter and any other special processes. Note: I do not work with indoor/outdoor cats for the safety of your pets and my other clients.

Learn More About Kayla

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I have been a cat parent my whole life, and have always been a trusted cat sitter among my circle of friends. I started cat sitting professionally in April of 2022, and have never looked back. I have worked with kitties of all different stages of life, personalities, and needs. I love learning about my kitty clients' unique way of moving in this dog-eat-dog world.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

Yes, I have two! Beanie and Moosie are both short hair tuxedo cats. They came to us at different times, but now they are brothers through and through. Beanie is a very smart kitty, and can even do tricks like sit, speak and roll over. When he was a kitten, my husband bought him a puzzle feeder saying it would "train his dexterity". It worked very well, and now Beanie can now do practically anything a human toddler can do, including melt your heart. <3 Moosie on the other hand always has the sweetest look of innocent bewilderment in his eyes. He loves to nap in a sunny window and watch the birds with his brother, and loves groomed by his big brother. He is usually the center of attention, and likes to be involved in everything, even if he never knows what exactly is happening

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Read as much as you can on their profile, and send them a message before booking with any questions you may have. Always send a message if your kitties have any special needs.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

When a cat parent reaches out to me, I answer any questions they may have and explain my services. If asked, I make recommendations for their booking to best suit their budget and their kitties' needs. Once the booking is confirmed, I work with them to set up a meet and greet, where I go to their home, learn about their kitties needs, and tell them what they can expect from me during each visit. With all my cat parents, I am in frequent communication throughout the reservation. I send as many photos as the kitty will allow me to take, and send detailed updates about the visit.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I check that each cat parent has filled out the vet release form, and I keep up to date on my American Red Cross Pet CPR license. During visits, I remove any hazardous items I see, such as string or choking hazards. I keep the kitties' space safe and clean. I asses their food intake and litter habits to ensure everything seems normal. Of course I ensure the doors and windows are locked and security is armed. I bring packages in as soon as I see them, and I take note of anything I see around the home that may be of concern. I also keep an eye on any dangerous events happening locally, such as flooding or wildfires. I monitor evacuation maps during these events to ensure clients are safe, and would evacuate them if needed. Lastly, I keep frequent contact with my cat parents.

Are you usually available during holidays?

I am usually available during holidays. For major holidays, I do not offer overnight visits.

Kayla was great! She came for the meet-and-greet and took time to listen carefully and take notes. Luckily my 2 cats were chilling on their pillows so she got to see my super shy one. Unfortunately, he hid under the couch during her visits, but she still sent me pics of him! Kayla has a nice, calm vibe and is clearly a cat lover. She snuggled with my less shy guy and sent lots of pics. There were no issues, and everything was in order when I returned. Booking Kayla will definitely provide you peace of mind that your cats and home are well-cared for.

Kayla is the absolute best! our cats love her and she is so sweet with them. she also takes too tier pics. One of our cats got sick and she was so helpful with coordinating getting medicine from the vet and giving her her treatment. even giving us a lot of helpful options and great communication. Our house was utter chaos from just moving a month before and Kayla navigated everything so well. finding our shy cat and making sure he got some attention too.

My usual cat sitter was out of town, so I reached out to Kayla to step in. She got to know my cats' food routine, personalities, and so on, and had a great visit with them (with photos and updates!). I wouldn't hesitate to have Kayla visit my two kitties again!

Kayla was wonderful to work with. the cats adored her. It was clear from the photos they were happy, playing, and well tended. She sent a lot of amazing photos. Like just plain great shots as well as detailed text updates. One of our cats is a very very shy guy and she went above and beyond to make him comfortable. Kayla is so lovely and helpful. I wouldn't hesitate to book with her again whenever we need someone

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
