What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?
The biggest thing for me is that I don't feel like I'm bothering the sitter with all my requests so if a new cat parent is unsure of what to ask for, I'm happy to share my hopes when I hire a sitter! After that I start by learning all about your kitty's personality, routines, and any special needs. We’ll go over feeding, playtime, litter care, and any quirks or preferences they have. I also like to know your communication style so I can give updates that keep you at ease (probably my biggest concern when I'm away from my cat). My goal is to follow your instructions so your kitty feels safe, happy and loved while you’re away.
How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?
I feel like trusting your home and baby to a stranger (hopefully not for long!!) can be one of the scariest things. That's why whatever your instructions are don't feel like you're being too extra. My main effort is to follow your instructions closely along with keeping doors, windows, and other hazards secured at all times, especially with how quick and agile cats are. I make sure your baby is safely indoors, double check food water and litter and watch for any signs of distress. For your home, I lock up carefully, respecting your privacy and taking care of the home how I'd hope a sitter would take care of mine. And again, regular updates to make sure you know your cat and home are safe!!
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
This question is perfect because I know firsthand how important patience and gentleness are (I have the MOST timid anxious kitty). I let the cat set the pace, avoid sudden movements (my cat hates sudden movements. And most people haha) and giving them plenty of space to feel safe. I use a calm voice and quiet presence to build their trust because sometimes just sitting near them and letting them come to me works best. The goal is ALWAYS to make them feel secure and respected.

This is now several times we've booked Sheila to take care of our kits, and the longest one now at over 2 weeks. As always, Sheila was extremely professional and kept us updated on the status of the little brats as well as any potential havoc they caused. Came back to a house that was still intact so full points for Sheila once again!

No notes! Sheila was of amazing help while we were out, and took fantastic care of our 3 cats, not to mention dodging through all of our cat deterrents on a daily basis without complaint. Sheila went above and beyond, taking regular update pictures, playing with them, and even vacuuming some of their mess (very much appreciated and not expected). We have some more trips coming up and most certainly plan on hiring her again.

Holiday Surcharge
Due to high demand during holidays, sitters on Meowtel have the option to set their own holiday price increase, which can be found in the rates section of their profiles. If your reservation falls within three (3) days before and/or after a federal holiday, or on the holiday itself, a holiday surcharge, determined by your sitter, will be added to your reservation.
These are the date ranges in 2026 to which the holiday surcharge applies:
- January 1-4: New Year's 2026
- January 16-22: MLK Day
- February 13-19: Presidents Day
- May 22-28: Memorial Day
- June 16-22: Juneteenth
- July 1-7: July 4th
- September 4-10: Labor Day
- October 9-15: Columbus Day / Indigenous Peoples' Day
- November 8-14: Veterans Day
- November 23-29: Thanksgiving

- December 29-31: New Year's 2027

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

Ontario cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $31.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.
Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.
