Cat Sitting in Pasadena, CA

“The smallest feline is a masterpiece.” Leonardo da Vinci's observation could not have been more accurate. I love all animals, but I especially have enjoyed living with and caring for cats all my life. I appreciate every cat for his or her own unique purrsonality and like to get acquainted with them on their terms. Everything I do as a cat sitter is rooted in building mutual trust through love, compassion, respect, honesty, and lots of patience.

I have been cat sitting professionally since 2019, and in addition to that, I cared for two beloved cats of my own for over 15 years! While I frequently get repeat customers, I welcome new kitty clients too. I have enjoyed establishing strong, positive relationships with the kitties I care for so that they feel comfortable and secure with me when their families are away.

I'm a former college professor with a Ph.D. in Psychology (Animal Behavior, Conditioning, and Learning). I often apply training techniques when I work with kitties to make brushing and other treatments as stress-free and enjoyable as possible...

I'm a former college professor with a Ph.D. in Psychology (Animal Behavior, Conditioning, and Learning). I often apply training techniques when I work with kitties to make brushing and other treatments as stress-free and enjoyable as possible. I love playing with cats during my visits to give them exercise and prevent boredom. I will do my best to provide your kitty with the same kindness and quality care that I would want my own cat to receive. I can never replace your presence, but I will try to replicate your daily routine as closely as possible because most kitties are true creatures of habit.

After my sweet kitties passed away in 2018 and 2019 at 16 and 17 years old, cat sitting became one way I honor their memories, and I have found it an incredibly fulfilling and meaningful profession. My cats taught me a lot over the years, such as how to provide an enriching and safe home environment, help cats adjust to special diets, manage chronic health conditions, address "problem" behaviors, and give medications and other treatments such as sub-Q fluids when needed. I have experience with several medications and supplements for cats, including Cerenia, Prednisolone, Buprenex/Buprenorphine, Aluminum Hydroxide and other phosphorous binders, Famotidine, potassium gluconate, Methimazole, Orbax, Gabapentin, and Mirataz/Mirtazapine. I have been fully vaccinated and boosted for COVID, wash my hands thoroughly on arrival, and wear a mask during visits for the protection of your cats and home environment.

When I’m not cat-sitting, I’m substitute teaching and tutoring K-12 and college students online in ELA/English, writing, and psychology. I enjoy reading about animal-related topics, writing poetry, cooking new recipes, and working out at home.

A FREE Meet-n'-Greet is included with your first booking so that you and your kitty can get to know me a bit, and we can discuss your kitty's routine and care. There is also no charge for key pick-up and/or drop-off.

Learn More About Laurel

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

Cats have always been a part of my life. I grew up with my family’s cats, took care of neighbors’ cats, and had two wonderful kitties as an adult (they lived to be 16 and 17 years old). I have been cat sitting professionally since 2019, and it’s been a wonderful balance for my other job as an online tutor for ELA/English, writing, and psychology. Before and/or after working with students much of the day, I am eager to get out and play with the cats I am caring for. It’s a nice change of pace, and I find it incredibly relaxing to be with the cats in my care. I learn something new from every cat I work with, which is always exciting and enriching for me as well.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

One of the things I love most about cat sitting is that I can help make it possible for people to travel and do what they need to do without worrying about their cats while they are gone. I take careful notes on what clients tell me about their kitty care routines and try to replicate them as much as possible to put clients and their cats at ease. It’s so fulfilling when clients tell me they have peace of mind while traveling because they know their cats are well-cared-for at home.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

During your meet-n-greet, allow time to sit and talk with the sitter in the presence of your cat (even if he/she is hiding nearby) so that your cat can become accustomed to the sitter's scent and voice in association with your positive, relaxed reactions. If possible, book your new cat sitter for a longer visit on the first and last days of the reservation so that they have some extra time to get to know your cat when they are alone with them for the first time and have a little extra time to clean up more thoroughly during the last visit. Make a list of all the tasks required, including bringing in mail and/or watering plants if needed, and don’t forget to factor in play time for your cat. Then, consult with the cat sitter to see if the amount of time you have booked them for looks appropriate.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

During our meet-n-greet, I complete: 1) a Cat Care Information form so I know all about your kitty’s feeding and care routine, including special instructions on how any medications should be given, 2) an Emergency Contacts/Home Instructions form so I know safety guidelines for your home (e.g., location of water and gas shut-off valves, apartment manager’s or trusted neighbor’s contact information), and 3) a Key Handling form so I know codes for gates, doors, and/or security systems and how to arm/disarm them to keep your property secure. I always block the doorway with my bag as I open the front door so that your cat cannot sneak out. I also ask clients to show me where they keep their cat carriers in the event that a vet visit or home evacuation is necessary. I carry this paperwork, your Vet Release, and a kitty first-aid kit with me for each visit.

Are you usually available during holidays?

I am usually available to cat sit during holidays. I tend to book up in advance of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's.

What is your favorite cat toy?

Apparently, cats love shoelaces! I found this out when one of my own cats kept trying to grab my shoelaces whenever I was tying my shoes. So, I always carry a variety of colorful shoelaces in my kitty care bag. I tie little cardboard tubes to the ends and swoosh the laces back and forth on the floor. Most cats go wild chasing after them!

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

To put timid or anxious cats more at ease, I sit down on the floor several feet away and wait to see if they approach me. If a cat does not want to come near me, it’s fine. I never pet any cat without getting a clear invitation from the cat first, such as marking me with its face or turning to give me an affiliative tail. If treats are allowed, I sometimes offer one after a cat has approached me on its own. I use a calm, soft voice and don't make any sudden movements around anxious cats. Sticking to a regular routine helps reassure cats too. For me, getting to know a shy cat needs to take place on their terms; that's how I earn their trust. Patience is key, but it really pays off in the long run!

I hired Laurel again and she was wonderful, as always. She’s incredibly attentive and thoughtful with my two cats, and I really appreciate how detail oriented she is. She cleaned and reset the litter boxes exactly how I like them, which says a lot because I’m pretty particular about their setup. She also spent time playing with them and making sure they felt comfortable while I was away. What means the most to me is that my Bengals are usually very wary around people and can be quite picky, but they clearly remembered Laurel and were completely comfortable with her during my trip. That gave me so much peace of mind while I was away. I came home to happy cats and a spotless home. I would absolutely recommend Laurel to anyone looking for a reliable, caring, and genuinely attentive cat sitter.

I cannot recommend Laurel highly enough! From the very beginning, I knew she was going to be a great match. She took detailed notes about each of my cats—their unique behaviors, preferences, and feeding routines—which immediately put me at ease. While I was away, she was meticulous in every aspect of their care: preparing their food exactly the way they like it, keeping their litter boxes spotless, and even spending quality time playing with them. On top of that, she left my home absolutely pristine. I was able to truly relax on my trip knowing that my cats were not only well taken care of, but genuinely cared for. She’s a true professional and a gem to find!

Laurel provided outstanding care for the monster who shares my apartment whilst I was abroad (one word). She sent daily detailed reports, photos and videos, and even managed to gain Clawed's trust, an accomplishment that mostly eludes me. Highly recommended!

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Pasadena cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $33.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
