Cat Sitting in Pasadena, CA

My headline is a joke but also true. Animals are the best! A lifelong animal lover and adult life animal caretaker, I’m always that person that connects with the animal that doesn’t like strangers. I’ve had my own cats for over 15 years, and I love being around animals in general. To toot my own horn, I’m a bit of a cat whisperer. Those years of cat ownership have led to a wealth of cat knowledge. They happen to be one of my favorite subjects! Certified fear free through the Pasadena Humane Society, I also have another secret weapon--one of my closest friends is a cat behaviorist. This means I have been lucky to have been exposed to an encyclopedia of cat knowledge that not many people get to experience.

I am comfortable doing almost everything your cat will let me do. Not just standards like scooping the litter box, feeding, playing, grooming, etc., but I am also comfortable administering medications including injections and giving pills manually...

Not just standards like scooping the litter box, feeding, playing, grooming, etc., but I am also comfortable administering medications including injections and giving pills manually. As someone who has had senior kitties and younger kitties with ongoing health issues, I know how hard and stressful it can be finding a sitter you trust. Don’t worry: I got you.

In addition to older kitties, I’m also experienced with kittens. I’ve fostered litters and helped raised little ones to be amazing companions!

During my cat sits, first thing is greeting your fur babies every time I arrive. It is, after all, their home and not mine. I let them dictate the mood. After feeding them and refreshing their water, I make sure their litter box is cleaned and clean up any little cat-related messes that may be lurking. Then the kitties and I can spend some quality time together with some pets, grooming, and/or some playtime enrichment. I like to let them guide me in letting me know what they need. If they like treats (which I’m sure they do), I love to give them! For your peace of mind, I can also retrieve your mail & packages, water your plants, and take out the kitty trash when I leave. If you have other small animals (such as birds, hamsters, etc), I am happy to feed those as well, just note that those animals are not insured under Meowtel. Please also let me know if you have any special requests.

Learn More About Katie

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I have been cat sitting for about 20 years. In the beginning, it was mostly through word of mouth and friends of friends, but in recent years I have also worked for a local pet sitting service and fostered through local shelters.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

As a cat owner, I know that cats are social animals and finding a good sitter who 1) knows that, 2) takes great care, and 3) pays close attention to your cats makes it so much easier to be away from them. I love providing comfort for families knowing that their fur babies are being properly cared for in their absence. I also love helping with cats with special needs--like medication, injections, etc. Plus animals are the absolute best! If I could pet every animal in the world, I would. Meeting and interacting with cats brings me great joy as I feel like I understand them and their needs, and they give me everything that I need just by being themselves.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I have four of my own fur children. Bits, my tuxie, and Jupiter, my black girl, are the oldest, 3 years old, and are litter mates. My other house panther is Squid, our most social guy and just over a year old. Then we have Plum, our long haired tortie baby who is almost a year old. She excels at all things kitten, including and especially being adorable. Our eldest Awesome recently crossed the rainbow bridge at 15 where she met her brother & littermate Danger that left us a few years prior. We love them all very much!

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I always like to schedule a meet-n-greet with new clients as I can learn the most about a cat when the cat parent is present. We can go over all of their needs and little quirks. You can tell me the cat’s preferences—beds, toys, hiding places, favorite treats, etc. You can see how I interact with the cats so that you know you can trust me. As a cat parent myself, that’s very important to me.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

When I arrive at your home, I am very careful to open the door slowly, using my foot to block the exit just in case you have any escape artists. My first step once I'm inside is to find each of your cats to ensure that everyone is present and in a healthy state. I always take pictures of the cats immediately, even if they are hiding, so that you know that your babies are safe in their home. When I leave, I follow all directions for locking up, and I exit extremely carefully the same way I enter your home. I also take a photo for you of the locked door so you know that I have paid attention to making sure everyone is accounted for.

What is your favorite cat toy?

Cats love and need something tangible they can hunt and grab onto, so anything hanging off the end of a stick with a string or elastic makes the best cat toy. It is the most interactive, and as I am in control of the toy, I can mimic movements to activate their hunting instincts.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

With timid/anxious cats, I always make sure to come into the home with a calm and quiet matter. Cats in general can be easily overwhelmed, and I find this to be the best approach in general. If they will come into the room with me, I squat down and put out a finger without looking them in the eye to see if they want to greet me. If I get a nose boop, that’s a great green light, especially if a head rub comes with it! If not, no worries. I like them to tell me what they want from me. If they are hiding, I may try to coax them out with Churu if they’ll let me, but if they want to keep hiding, that’s ok too. It doesn’t hurt my feelings. I still like to hang out quietly in the house with them for a bit after.

We had interviewed so many cat sitters over the last year…and they never felt like the right fit. When Katie came over for the meet and greet, I knew immediately that she was the cat sitter we had been looking for. When we were on vacation, she took excellent care and attention with our 2 cats. She went above and beyond. Both our cats have ‘stranger danger’. And Katie took the time to establish a connection with our cats, and they trusted her for treats and belly rubs. She texted photos every day. I felt so comfortable with Katie watching our babies and never worried once while we were away. She will be our go to cat sitter from here on out!!!

Katie is amazing! She was so caring and attentive to our kitties. She was on top of everything, followed our care instructions and kept us updated with pictures and texts at every visit. She even vacuumed up some litter that had been tracked and moved a box that posed a safety concern for the kitties. Plus she kindly checked in on our hamster too. Our cats were clearly in great hands and we could tell from the pics that they loved Katie. We will definitely be booking with Katie in the future!

Katie is one of the best cat owners and cat people I know! I would trust her to care for our 14 (yes, 14) cats without question, despite their individual dietary and medication needs. She is organized, caring, follows instructions and guidelines to a T and, more than anything, LOVES cats so so much.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Pasadena cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $35.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
