My favorite experience was caring for four whimsical cats - Cocteau, Truffaut, Tinman, and Gimli. Two were “the French cats” - which was very fitting as one was completely unbothered, while the other was highly opinionated. It was hilarious. Sitting for them felt like being immersed inside their cartoon; they were incredibly expressive, funny, and affectionate in their own ways. I loved entering their unique world - learning the little nuances of their routines, personalities, and choices, responding to their vocalizations and sharing time with them. Also outstanding was the relationship with the pet parent. They were warm, communicative, and deeply accountable. Their respect for boundaries and proactive reassurance around safety allowed me to show up best for the cats. I feel that the most successful reservations are a direct reflection of a foundation of mutual respect, cultivating a professional partnership built on straightforward communication, mutual safety, and genuine respect.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

Before a stay, I secure an explicit layout of home mechanics, vet preferences, and emergency protocols. During a past reservation where the owners were off-grid, a potential medical issue arose. I immediately initiated emergency protocols: mobilizing their local network, contacting emergency vets, and monitoring the animal until the owners returned. I manage the environment with care - ensuring doors are secure, checking for feline hazards, and protecting home privacy. I treat every home with professional accountability. If an unexpected situation arises, I don’t panic; I assess, communicate transparently with the pet parent, and take action. I also bring extensive experience in leadership positions requiring emergency protocols, including having been a Resident Advisor for college students. I am experienced in managing properties and maintaining a calm head under pressure. Safety is my highest priority, approached with logistical precision.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I approach sensitive, timid, or anxious cats by letting them dictate the pace of our interaction. I use gentle body language and do not force connection. By bringing a calm, patient, and deeply grounded energy to the home, I allow shy pets to sense that their boundaries are respected. I embody a reassuring presence so that they understand they are truly seen. Past clients have warned, “They’ll probably hide!” and found their cats warmed right up to me. One noted her highly attached cats are typically emotionally distraught after trips, but with me, they were the happiest she’d ever seen. Whether a cat is slow to trust or nervous about receiving medication, I’m happy to accommodate them. Their discernment is one of the reasons why I admire them. I pay attention to their subtle emotional cues and ensure they feel entirely safe, heard, and cared for on their own terms.
