Cat Sitting in Walnut Creek, CA

I can't wait to meet your kitties and provide them with TLC while you're away! I'm a shameless, long-time cat lady. They're loving, intelligent, and fascinating animals, amazing companions, and natural healers/ teachers.

I've had five of my own cats over the last 30 years. I raised four of them from tiny kittens and got to experience all of their life stages. They lived to the ripe old ages of 16, 17, 20 and 21. I recently adopted a four year old tabby that I was fostering. I understand the particular needs and characteristics of young, middle-aged, and senior cats. My senior kitties ended up with kidney disease, pancreatitis, and cancer at the end of their lives. I've also dealt with infections and allergies, among other health problems...

I've also dealt with infections and allergies, among other health problems. When I was fostering my current cat, he had surgery for urinary issues, which involved a long recovery, multiple medications, and a need for a low stress environment. He also had a lot of dental issues. I feel like I've seen it all. So I'm experienced with the special care that seniors and cats with medical needs require. I've given oral and topical medications, subcutaneous fluids, and injections numerous times. I can coax shy or finicky cats into eating.

In addition to my own five cats, I lived with six 'nieces' and 'nephews' for many years, who were my sister's cats. So I've known a wide range of kitty personalities, from sassy torties to talkative, intelligent tuxedos.

I'm not currently working outside of pet sitting, but I'm a former Bay Area public school teacher. After I left teaching, I worked as a craniosacral therapist, energy healer, and intuitive. I'm sensitive to energy (like felines!) and can help to put your fur baby(ies) at ease while you're away.

I prefer to work in and near Walnut Creek, but am available for a number of cities this side of the tunnel.

Looking forward to working with you and your kitty(ies)!

Learn More About Lisa

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I've been doing it off and on for a while through Meowtel, and with friends and family prior to Meowtel.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I love meeting and interacting with new cats (and their people), and developing a relationship with return clients. I enjoy playing with them, giving them affection (if they're open to it), and providing them with safe connection while their people are away.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I recently adopted Ike, a cat I was fostering for seven months. Yes, a foster fail. He's affectionate and loves to play. He also loves to run across my body at 6am, in the hopes that I'll get up and feed him. I've had cats most of my adult life. My first two were Ginseng and Zuni, sibling barn kitties. Then I ended up with Hanabi (she was a little tuxedo firecracker!) and Kocha, feral neighborhood kittens. I've also lived with my sister's cats: Naia, Bowie, Phoebe, Loki, Gracie, and Kumo.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Choose someone you have a good feeling about or resonate with in some way. Make sure their qualifications align with your needs. Take the time to fill out your profile completely and get to know Meowtel's way of operating. Use the "meet and greet" to get to know your sitter and go over all relevant info. Try to trust that your cats are in good hands! I know it can be natural to worry! Keep communication channels open.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I schedule a meet and greet a few days before the reservation (or when it's convenient) to meet the kitty(ies), go over instructions, answer any questions, pick up the key, and discuss how/when to return it, per Meowtel's policy. I'm happy to do this in person or online (if the key situation allows for a virtual meeting and it works out better for the cat parent).

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I'm conscious of doors, locks, and windows. I'm careful about not leaving empty metal food cans and lids lying around. I check that faucets are off before I leave and trash bins are closed or out of reach of kitties. I'm careful to play safely with the cats so they don't do something that might lead to an injury. I don't give cats food or treats that the cat parent hasn't ok'd or authorized. I always defer to specific instructions given to me by the cat parent but use my judgment in the moment.

Are you usually available during holidays?

I'm often available on holidays.

What is your favorite cat toy?

Whatever toys my cat clients like best! I've had good success with feather wands and little crinkle balls. My own cats have loved some strange "toys": a potholder, shipping boxes and the inner packaging material, straws, and a plastic arm that broke off of a pair of eyeglasses. Not a toy, but catnip can definitely make playing more fun. Happy to give that to cats who partake!

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I adjust how I approach and interact with them, giving them space and letting them take the lead. I use a calming tone of voice and body language that communicates safety. Getting down on their level can be helpful. Treats can sometimes be helpful. Touch can help put them at ease, if they're open to it. Distracting and coaxing with a toy can work, at times. Sometimes, especially with a longer visit, it just requires some patience and backing off, so the cat can see that you're safe and can decide to come around on its own terms. I'm always open to a cat parent's suggestions for working with their timid or anxious kitty.

This month

Lisa was an absolutely perfect sitter for my cat. She kept me posted, medicated a difficult kitty with two different medications and took care of everything I needed her to do regarding cat care, garbage cans and mail. I was able to spend quality time with my grandbabies without worry.

Lisa took great care of our little kitty. She's great at pictures, and we could see Luna was having a good time. Luna knocked over our glass kettle, and when we got home there was no glass anywhere. It means so much to be able to have our social kitty taken care of when we're away!

This was our first time hiring a cat sitter through a company and we are so glad we found Lisa! Lisa made not only us feel comfortable but she made our fur babies feel comfortable and took excellent care of them. By the end of our reservation our shy cat started coming out to eat in his regular spot and purred for her too! Lisa sent pictures and updates after every visit which reassured us that they were being taken care of. We will definitely hire her again! Thanks so much, Lisa!

Lisa went above and beyond for us. I highly recommend her services! I found myself in an emergency foster situation of 5 cats in addition to my own 2 cats just before a previously planned family trip. I really needed help ASAP! Lisa came to the rescue, met for the meet and greet promptly, and provided excellent care to all 7 adult cats, including daily photos and written updates. She really put my mind at ease and I could tell by the photos that the cats felt very loved.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Walnut Creek cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $37.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
