I'm Ayelet

Cat Sitting in Fort Collins, CO

Meow, I'm Ayelet (pronounced "I yell it")!

I'm a friendly, caring sitter available to drop in on your kitties in Fort Collins on weekdays and weekends. I've pet sat for friends and neighbors for more than 25 years. And my husband, daughter, and I have had 3 cats in our household with a wide range of personalities. Our current cat, Papaya, is a "foster win" and tolerates her dog brother, Pepper.

My favorite cat (don't tell Papaya😉) was Bagheera, our tuxedo, rumpy Manx cat who came from a very active home and a shelter. He was very anxious and slow to trust, but with lots of love, a quiet home, and time he learned to trust and love us. He became my literal shadow! There's a special place in my heart for those kitties who take time to warm up and need me to go slow...

There's a special place in my heart for those kitties who take time to warm up and need me to go slow. With each cat client I have, I love learning their likes and dislikes. Some want to play the whole time; some want to sit on my lap and cuddle; and some want to observe me before saying hello. All kinds of cats are welcome!

As one of my cat sitting regulars says: "Ayelet has been cat-sitting for our kitties for almost a decade. She intuitively knows cats and what they need, and she sends us the best kitty photos because she also knows what cat owners need. Ayelet is amazing and is the first person I ask to cat-sit whenever we're planning to be away."

I started cat sitting for others because I'm a freelance graphic designer and I wanted an excuse to get out during the day. I have plenty of time to snuggle, play with, and take care of your kitty friends. And, as my client mentioned above, one bonus of my professional background is that I really nerd out on taking cat photos and videos for people!

I look forward to meeting you and your cat(s)!

Learn More About Ayelet

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I've cat sat for over 25 years since I started in high school and have loved on a number of sweet and spunky cats in that time.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I love getting to know each cat's personality and what they like (e.g. are they interested in cuddling on a lap? are they most interested in chasing their mouse toy? etc.).

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I've got one black cat named Papaya at this time who is a very sweet cat to those she loves.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I usually respond to a chat message from a cat parent and then set up a meet n' greet. At the meet n' greet, the cat parent will introduce me to their kitty or kitties, show me around their place, and I make sure I know where the food, supplies, and litterboxes are. When the reservation starts, I send lots of photos, videos, and updates so the cat parent(s) can rest assure their fur buddies are getting a fun staycation while they're gone.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I know how I'd like my own home and my own pets to be cared for while away and I make sure the kitties in my care get the best in terms of their safety and security. I always make sure to leave the toys in the desired location and say goodbye to all the kitties so I know where everyone is before I leave the home. I double-check the door is locked and any lights are turned off (or left on if the cat parents like for security purposes). After my final visit, I either leave the key in the desired location or set up a time to return it to the cat parents, and send a final wrap-up chat message.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Yes, I'm usually available for Thanksgiving, winter break, and spring break (according to the PSD school district calendar) most years. Our close extended family lives in Fort Collins or surrounding areas so we don't usually travel at those times.

What is your favorite cat toy?

The most universal cat toy I've found is the Go Cat Catcher mouse toy - it's got a sparkly wand with a wire string that connects to a mouse. I have yet to find a cat that doesn't love this teaser wand cat toy. I think it's the way the mouse moves on the end of the wire and how they can't quite see the wire moving the mouse that thrills the kitties!

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I take it sloooooowwwww! One of my previous cats was timid and anxious. I kept him in his own room for a week and I sat with him every night after work with a book and a blanket on my lap. Eventually he started to sniff me and then he sat on my lap for a minute, then for longer. I knew it was a success when he greeted me at the door, not hiding in his box any more. I always ask the cat parent about the kitties' favorite hiding spots and will sit next to those spots when I stop by. I'm very patient, quiet, and know what sounds to make to get them curious about me and feeling safe.

Ayelet was so great to work with. I never worried because she was reliable like clockwork each day. I generally have a hard time leaving my Sammy cat because I feel so guilty but having Ayelet checking in with pics and updates of Sammy, made my trip so much more enjoyable. From the meet & greet, I immediately sensed her relaxed and comforting vibes and personality. Sammy immediately liked her and even rolled over for belly scratches at the Meet & Greet! I’ll definitely reach out to Ayelet next time I need cat sitting 🐾

Ayelet went above and beyond as a catsitter for my two kitties while I was away for 2 weeks, and I cannot recommend her more! Ayelet was very responsive and updated me regularly with photos and details on how my cats were doing and what activities they had gotten up to that day. She took out all the trash from the cats’ littler and food, so everything was super neat and nice when I came home. Plus, my two cats absolutely loved her! My experience with Ayelet was 10/10 — I feel comfortable and happy leaving my two kitties in her care again!

Ayelet did an amazing job looking after my cat Abu! He's normally a bit apprehensive towards new people but she was perfect at getting along with him. She gave great and detailed updates about how he was doing and if he had food, water, and a clean litter box. 10/10 would highly recommend for anyone looking for an amazing cat sitter!

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Fort Collins cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $31.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
