Golden Cat Care

I'm Julia

Cat Sitting in Golden, CO

I've lived with cats for 45 years and I'm owned by six now. I don't mind being called the crazy cat lady. I will provide reports and photos every day! I'm a pro with automatic litter boxes and I clean all water fountains every Saturday, without fail. I'm happy to help with cats, reptiles, chickens, fish, plants, and the mail.

I'm good at medicating even reluctant cats and pretty good at trimming nails. I have taken care of many medically-fragile senior cats. I've had diabetic, allergic, asthmatic, thyroid, and anxiety cats all on different meds over the years...

I'm good at medicating even reluctant cats and pretty good at trimming nails. I have taken care of many medically-fragile senior cats. I've had diabetic, allergic, asthmatic, thyroid, and anxiety cats all on different meds over the years.

I have learned so much from a client and her cat with cerebellar hypoplasia, sometimes called wobbly cat syndrome, and would be glad to look after others.

I've cared for several queens and litters of kittens, mine and rescues, and have handled post-surgical care.

I've had all my COVID and other vaccines and keep my cats up to date as well. I am careful with handwashing and other good-health measures.

IMPORTANT: I am allergic to tofu and walnut-hull based cat litter. I regretfully cannot watch cats that use these types of litter. I'd be happy to help you find a sitter without allergies!

I love getting to know each cat I meet and I'd be glad to support your family so you can enjoy your vacation or work trip.

80123: If Bow Mar puts up gates, I will reluctantly decline reservations from folks who live in that community. Thank you for your understanding.

Learn More About Julia

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I've done informal cat sitting for friends over the past thirty years. I've done some fostering for people in prison or long-term medical situations. I've been cat sitting more formally for the last few years, and joined Meowtel in April 2025.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

It's fun to get to know more cats. I have probably too many now but always want to know more purrsonalities! It's very important to me that you know your cats are getting all they need so that you can enjoy your time away.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I have six, all spayed/neutered. Celeste is my queen, a black tuxedo polydactyl half Maine coon, mother to three of our cats. She is six years old. She has also cared for two litters of kittens who were not hers. She is great at teaching kittens how to cat! Zeke (orange tabby tuxedo) and Jesse James (minimal black tuxedo) are brothers, rescued from a barn in Greeley, where they were both crawling with fleas. Zeke had a serious injury as a kitten and healing him up was a challenge, but they are four and very healthy now. Zeke is Celeste's "husband". Celeste and Zeke's three children (very much wanted) are: Spicy Caliente, a long-haired tortoiseshell tuxedo with amazing attitude; Coffey, a long haired minimal black tuxedo who never stops playing; and Laila, a short haired polydactyl tortoiseshell who is super shy except with me. These grown kittens are two.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Organize food and medications in a central place easy for me to find. Please also have a broom/dustpan and vacuum visible so that I can clean up any little messes and leave everything really tidy for your return home! Know that I love each kitty I meet and try hard to pull them out of their sulk if they're missing you. Please be honest about any behavior issues your cat has so I can address them and be aware. A surprise bite or scratch in a particularly-defended territory is better avoided than suffered.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I like to know about any quirks or favorite routines that a cat has, so after I go over the basics, I'm going to ask about those. What are your cat's favorite toys. Will they fetch? Do they enjoy watching birds on TV? I will put your key on my special Meowtel key ring and talk to you about your security setup to make sure that I keep your kitties and house secure while you're gone. I will also ask how much information you prefer about your cat each day - I can do a detailed food/water/litterbox/medication/activity report just like a daycare would about your baby, or I can send a few photos and let you know all is well. You tell me what makes you feel best without making you too homesick!

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I keep Meowtel client keys separate from my car keys and my own keys. I am fastidious about locking doors and always keep an eye on cats as I transition between parts of a house and outside to make sure that nobody gets trapped somewhere or sneaks out. (I have an escape artist, Jesse James, whose favorite game is "Mama, chase me across the lawn!" We have a sign that jokingly records the number of days since Jesse James last got out.) I am watchful for toxic plants and sharp objects that cats might explore, careful about open windows, and in general, treat them as wise beings with the danger sense of your average toddler (none).

Are you usually available during holidays?

Yes. My schedule is open through Summer 2027! I am very chill about holidays and I have no family nearby, so chances are good I can help you attend your extended-family holiday gathering! I put good snow tires on my AWD car every winter and will do everything possible to NOT miss a visit with your cats because of bad weather. It matters!

What is your favorite cat toy?

My cats love two simple toys the most (other than stolen hair bands, balls of aluminum foil, soda caps, or a cardboard box).... they have several 2" pompom balls with rattles inside that get played with a lot. We also discovered the Cat Dancer wire toy, which they all like and two of the younger cats have played until they are exhausted, over and over again. I usually have both of these toys on me; don't be surprised if I gift your cat one of those little balls! Good news: they are soft underfoot and stepping on them does not seem to break them.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I like to sit on the floor and talk to myself quietly. Many times this makes their curiosity kick in and with some slow blinks and soft words, I can get in a good scritch or two, and then we're OK. With your permission, I might offer your cat a squeezy food treat; this often brings around the most hesitant cats and is one of the tools I use to "warm up" rescued community cats. I am also OK with just sitting with a shy cat in their space. Sometimes mutual awareness is all a cat needs to feel comforted and less bored. I try hard to respect what a cat tells me about the contact it wants, or doesn't want. I will also ask you what makes your cat come around for some loving when they choose it.

Julia is incredible. She clearly has a ton of experience, including with older cats. With our guy, he had a history of scaring off pet sitters (including vet techs) because he’d get scared that we’re not at home and the sitter would complain that they weren’t able to administer his insulin. Not Julia! Julia was calm and patient, which is exactly the energy our kitty needs when he’s out of his routine. She also met him where he was at that day with energy levels and didn’t force him or chase him. I really, really appreciated this. She’s clearly worked with older grumpy/scaredy cats before! Julia got to our house when she said she would; was very communicative about what she did and her, and checked in with me about behavior questions. I was so appreciative.

Response from Julia

Oliver has some sass but he's also got a sense of humor. He was sad to be out of his routine. Older cats like a steady hand and calm voice, and I was happy to be that for him.

Julia is amazing! She came for two overnight visits with my cat midge and was instrumental in keeping him happy. She sent so many photos, updates on his eating and bathroom visits, and gave me such peace of mind. I’m so grateful she offers overnights and will welcome her back into our home again and again!

if you are going to use this sitter, leave the feeding instructions in writing, even if they are as simple as « 1 level scoop of kibble « . If your cats eat on a schedule, rather than free feeding, write that down with the times. inquire if this schedule will work alongside the other cats she’s feeding over the same dates as yours.

Response from Julia

I'm sorry we miscommunicated and wish that you'd left written instructions as you promised. You could have told me in response to any of my updates, but you did not. I did my best, but these cats have behavior issues.

I highly recommend Julia for cat-sitting! She was very reliable and she took great care of my geriatric kitty (with multiple health issues and on multiple oral and injectable medications). 'Gertrude' took to Julia right away, and Julia was comfortable with medication administration, ensuring that she got all that she needed. Great with cats, including those high maintenance seniors!

Julia was amazing. She was very attentive. One of our babies got sick and she kept me posted and troubleshooted with me. She was willing to do anything we asked including making a trip to the vet even though she was running late for work. If we could give a ten star rating, we would. ❤️

Julia took such good care of our two cats and sent thoughtful daily updates with photos, which made being away so much easier. It’s clear she genuinely pays attention to their routines and personalities. We came home to happy, well-cared-for kitties and felt completely at ease while we were gone. We would absolutely book her again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:

  • More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
  • 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
  • Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Golden cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $30.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a Meet & Greet!
