Cat Sitting in Jacksonville, FL

I’ve loved cats as long as I can remember, and they love me back! I’ve been owned by a total of 6…so far. Life with my current 3 cats is quite an adventure, and they keep me on my toes! They’ve even learned to do tricks & follow basic commands. Maybe I can teach yours a few?

My cat Tazzie has forever changed what I thought I knew about cats. Learning about feline behavior and enrichment is very important to me so that I can provide the best environment for my cats, improve our relationship, and be the best cat mom & sitter I can. I’m even considering becoming a certified cat behaviorist and have taken a few classes and attended some conferences.

My experience has included young kittens, elderly cats, sick cats, shy cats, scared cats, active cats and just about everything else in between. I’m experienced at giving eye/ear drops, transdermal medications, asthma inhalers and pills. I’ve been cat sitting informally for a long time, and with Meowtel since Oct. 2022...

I foster kittens (mostly socialization) for the Jax Humane Society when I can, but my specialty is volunteering with the Great Lakes Bengal Rescue/Bengal Rescue Network. I’ve fostered several adult Bengals and a pair of kittens with medical issues (now thriving!) who all needed help until they could find forever homes.

Since I’ve had to leave my cats with a sitter myself, I understand EXACTLY how worrisome it can be! No question or concern is too silly. No request is too much or too crazy. Does your cat need medication? Eat raw food? Have a litter robot or microchip/timed feeders? Need to be fed from the blue bowl with the orange spoon on the third tile from the right? No problem! I’m reliable, trustworthy, detail oriented, and have common sense. Your specific instructions (food, water, litter, meds, lock/alarm, trash, etc) will be followed and adjustments can be made during the visit as needed.

Whatever your cat(s) want to do during my visit, I’ll follow their lead— interacting, playing, and giving love (or space) however and whenever they’re ready. I love talking to them, too! Every visit, you’ll get updates (want more/less or specific info? Just let me know!) & plenty of pictures. Who doesn’t want more pics of their cats? I’m also happy to water plants, bring in mail/packages and take out trash, too. I love animals of all kinds, so I’m open to taking care of other small pets, too. (Send a message to ask and please note that no animals other than cats are covered under the Meowtel Promise.)

Because I teach college classes in the classroom & online (with my feline assistants, of course!), I have a flexible schedule, and cat sitting is my main job in the summer. I live in the Mandarin/Southside area, but I’m often in San Marco & Riverside and can travel to other parts of Jax.

I look forward to meeting you and your kitties and taking care of them (and your home) as I would my own. Making both you and them feel as comfortable as possible in your absence is my goal!

NOTE: due to traffic, my own cats’ feeding/meds schedule, and my teaching schedule, I will have limited available time slots Mon-Thurs mornings with the exception of holidays.

If any dates you need are showing as unavailable, please feel free to check with me. I may be able to adjust my schedule.

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I’ve been sitting for Meowtel since Oct 2022, but I’ve been cat sitting for pretty much my whole life. I got my first job with my brother when I was about 9 sitting for our neighbor’s indoor/outdoor cats. Watermelon was my favorite kitty!

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

CATS and other cat people!!!! I just love meeting, caring for, and getting to know different cats. No matter how stressful my day has been, playing with, talking to, and cuddling cats always makes it better!

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

Hemi (13): a fluffy, silly, energetic flame-point who loves to be brushed & can jump like you wouldn’t believe for a big boy; he also knows how to open my cabinets Mateo (9), a shy, sweet tabby who loves to snuggle & is a momma’s boy. He also uses buttons to communicate! Tazzie (10), a very smart, energetic, bossy little Bengal girl who I adopted from a rescue; she loves to run on her cat wheel All my cats are in my pictures, including my 3 previous ones: Kitty (tabby), Bear (white & black) and Angel (grey & white).

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Ask as many questions as you need to! We understand you need to find the right person, and it may be the first time you’re using a sitter.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I always watch the door when I arrive & leave for any escape artists and do a headcount while I’m there. I like to put eyes on all the cats to ensure they are healthy and safe. It’s important to look for any signs of illness or distress and to be sure no one has accidentally closed themself somewhere. In addition, keys are always kept with me. I double (or even triple) check that all doors are locked. If anything looks suspicious or unusual, I’ll alert you. No one but me ever enters your home, and I respect your property & belongings.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Yes! Holidays are typically not a problem for me. However, I usually do visit family for a few days around Xmas.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I usually do well with timid/anxious cats (I have one), including the ones that people say won’t come out from under the bed or I’ll never see when I’m there. Some come out during the meet & greet, and the owners are shocked. Others decide to slowly come out and investigate me over time, which is fine. It important to take it at their speed and when they are ready. No need to rush! I’ll often sit near wherever they are & just talk to them quietly. I may offer a treat or my hand to sniff if they seem receptive. I may try to engage them with a hard to resist toy. Paying attention to their body language is crucial. One cat was terrified of strangers, but over time, he started to trust me. He became the biggest love bug & loves purring in my lap.

Jennifer is amazing. We always feel 100% at ease when we are away and she is watching over our kitties. This last weekend one of our cats got sick and she noticed immediately a change in his behavior. Without hesitation she took care of him just as if he was her own. We asked if she could take him to the pet ER and she did. She was up until the wee hours after a late night spent making sure Tigger was cared for and she did it with love and grace. She made a difficult situation so much easier. We are so thankful for her.

Had Jennifer watch our group for a few days after our one boy started some new meds and diet. She was great about keeping an extra eye on him to watch for symptoms and loved on him extra hard, which made me feel sooo much better about being away.

Jennifer is the very best. she truly loves kitties and she takes care of them as if they were her own. My kitty is a sweet little old lady with special needs. Jennifer is great about giving meds and providing pets and lots of chin scratches. She provides updates and sends loads of pictures each visit. If you have to be away, you can rest easy knowing that Jennifer is taking excellent care of your kitty.

Once again, Jennifer was wonderful with my happy PB&J trio. All three immediately recognized her and warmly greeted her (which is a real honor as two of them are very shy at times). All three have meds and all three take their meds in a unique way. Jennifer was super diligent in following the routine and all three took their meds straight from her hands (also a sign of great trust!). When I had to return home because I got sick, Jennifer helped me navigate Meowtel reservation and made sure all of us were safe. I would not leave my kittos with anyone else! Thank you Jennifer!

This was the first time in 10 yrs PB&J have been left alone overnight. I knew they were in good hands with Jennifer but still I was anxious they would feel neglected. As soon as I got the first visit report and fantastic photos all my anxieties disappeared. All three kittos had the best time and clearly felt safe, cared for, and loved. They played, they ate, & they entertained Jennifer (and me with the pics). All three have some specific care needs with meds and supplements. Jennifer was so attentive to keeping their usual rituals . She even used the same cues and affirmations I use. Jennifer is a true cat Mom and is a wonderful surrogate Mom! All four of us look forward to seeing her again!! Phini, Bodhi, and June Bug give 12 paws for Jennifer! !

First time ever having to use a sitter for my two cats. One of the two cats can be very timid and takes medication twice a day. I was a bit nervous for both Jennifer and my calico Joy hoping they clicked. Jennifer met the cats beforehand making sure there was a connection. Her actions were gentle and gained their initial trust. During her visits she gave me detailed updates and photos. She was very communicative and that helped as I was able to tell her few habits of the cats during her visit. She was able to medicate my calico after sticking with it! By the time the last visit was complete I feel she earned both cats trust which is great! I'll be a repeat customer next time I need a sitter!

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Jacksonville cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $22.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
