What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?
I would tell a customer to look for a sitter who has experience with many different cats and understands that every cat has their own personality. Some cats are playful and social, some are shy, some need space, and some need extra patience before they feel comfortable. I’d also recommend choosing someone who actively learns about cat behavior, not just someone who “likes cats.” A good sitter should understand body language, boundaries, stress signs, enrichment, and how to make each kitty feel safe and happy. Watching people like Jackson Galaxy, the previous host of My Cat From Hell, and learning from other cat behaviorists can make a big difference in how a sitter approaches each cat. Most importantly, I’d tell them to choose someone reliable, calm, and detail-oriented — someone who will follow instructions, respect the cat’s routine, send updates, and treat their cat like a real individual, not just another pet
Are you usually available during holidays?
Yes, I am usually available during holidays, depending on my schedule. I can often accept last-minute reservations for existing clients as long as I do not already have plans. Most of the time, I know my availability well ahead of time, so I recommend booking early for holidays whenever possible. That said, I try to be flexible because I understand how important reliable cat care is when owners are traveling or plans change unexpectedly.
How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?
I handle timid or anxious cats with a lot of patience, understanding, and space. I know that to cats, humans can feel like big, clumsy, scary creatures — especially if they’ve had bad experiences with people before, or if a new person is suddenly in their territory. I never force interaction. I let the cat decide the pace, whether that means hiding, watching me from across the room, sniffing me, or eventually coming closer. I also make sure they always have a safe space to retreat to and a clear way out, so they never feel trapped or cornered. My goal is to build trust slowly by being calm, predictable, and respectful of their boundaries. With anxious cats, even a quiet, peaceful visit where they feel safe is a success.

Holiday Surcharge
Due to high demand during holidays, sitters on Meowtel have the option to set their own holiday price increase, which can be found in the rates section of their profiles. If your reservation falls within three (3) days before and/or after a federal holiday, or on the holiday itself, a holiday surcharge, determined by your sitter, will be added to your reservation.

- February 13-19: Presidents Day
- May 22-28: Memorial Day

Frequently Asked Questions
Reservations officially begin at 12:00 AM in the sitter's time zone on the start date. Cat Parents may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund, as long as the reservation has not yet started. After the first 24 hours, the following cancellation rules apply:
- More than 48 hours before the reservation start date: Full refund. The sitter will not receive any earnings.
- 24–48 hours before the reservation start date: 50% refund. The sitter will earn 50% of their planned earnings.
- Within 24 hours of the reservation start date (or after it has begun): No refund. The sitter will earn 100% of their planned earnings.
All refunds are initially applied to the Cat Parent's Meowtel Account Balance for use toward a future reservation or tip. Funds may be returned to the original payment method at any time.
