Cat Sitting in Douglasville, GA

I've been owned by cats my whole life, and can't imagine my life without them. So I know how important it is to find someone to care for them the way I would when I need to be away from home! So I know how important it is to find someone to care for them the way I would when I need to be away from home! While neighbors, friends and family have relied on me to take care of their dogs, hamsters, fish and birds while they've been out of town, my true heart is for cats. My current kitty crew consists of Molly (21 yrs old), Stella (2) and Shadow (2).

I recently said goodbye to two of my three senior kitties - Ruby and Winston. Ruby was diabetic for most of her life. and Winston had FHV-1 (feline herpes). I'm a pro at giving medications including insulin injections and pills, and know the subtle warning signs of a low blood sugar and how to treat it. Rest assured, your furbabies will be in good hands with me.

Learn More About Allison

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

Not including caring for my own household kitties as a child, I started house and pet sitting for families other than my own when I was a teenager. (I did some babysitting, too, so sometimes the families hired me for their pets.) So... many many years!

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I know firsthand how stressful it is to leave your kitties in the hands of a caregiver when you’re away. They’re family, and need to feel just as safe and cared for while you’re gone as they did when you’re home. It makes me feel good knowing I can help make that decision a little bit easier. I have met cats with all sorts of personalities over the years and love and respect each and every one.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

Yes! I have three kitties currently. Molly is the senior, at 21 years old. I adopted her from the local shelter at 8 months, and she was my first personal adoption when I got my first apartment as a young adult. She was left as an only cat when our other two, Ruby & Winston, passed away. So we adopted a pair of kittens - Stella and Shadow. Molly isn't really a fan of the youngsters, but she's getting more tolerant of them over time.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

You know your cats best. Their habits, their preferences, and even their quirks. Think about those as you describe your cats to potential sitters. Those descriptions should lead to some good questions from the sitter that will make the job a lot easier! I always ask about health history, any favorite hiding spots, whether they’re content to stay inside or tend to try to escape to the wild… and lots more depending on the cat.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

During my walk-through before sitting I typically ask about any security cameras or alarms I will need to know about. When I enter the home I always check that doors and windows are locked, and I wear the house key around my neck for the duration of the visit to ensure I never accidentally lock myself out. I ask about smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, if available, and if any lights are on a timer. I’ll bring in mail and packages, and let the owner know if anything ever seems out of sorts.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

Lots of patience, calm, and (when approved by the cat parent) treats! Especially on my first couple of visits, I make a point to move slowly, speak softly, and let the timid cats approach me rather than the other way around. Sometimes I extend the first visit a little just so I can sit quietly in an area that is open and accessible to the cats. Even if they won't be enticed to approach for treats, they'll be able to check out my scent after I leave. Usually after a few visits, even the shyest kitties will at least sit across the room whilst I chat to them about how purrfect they are!

We usually board our kitties when we travel but decided to give Meowtel a try. Obviously I was nervous about having someone else care for our kitties but after meeting Allison during the Meet & Greet we knew we had made the right decision. She asked all the right questions and even brought up things I hadn't thought of. While we were gone, we got updates after each visit, including photos and videos. Plus the kitties got plenty of playtime with her laser pointer! Forget boarding. From now on we're booking Allison when we travel.

Allison takes good care of our two fuzzy boys, Rocket and Kosmo. Even though Rocket is skiddish around other people, he happy to come out when she visits. She keeps up with their dietary needs, and is great with communicating.

We have 3 kitties, 2 with medical issues needing medication & the other is a hider, the definition of a scaredy cat. Allison was great with all of them. Our shy hider came out to greet her & get pets, the other 2 were well taken care of & their medical needs met. She was very communicative & attentive with everyone. I feel good knowing that if we need to go away, our beloved cats will be in good hands with Allison, she went above & beyond. We’ll be booking again soon. thank you!

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
