I'm Emma

Cat Sitting in Marcus Hook, PA

I'm Emma (she/her) and I have 3 cats (Reuben, Prince Salami, and Yzma). I sometimes have a bonus foster cat, too. I am 29 and I have spent lots of time with kitties throughout my life - I just love them.

A history of my time working with cats:

As a pre-teen, I volunteered with my mom and sister taking care of shelter cats and fostering through a rescue operating out of a Petco in Peachtree City, GA (The Good Shepherd Humane Society). I also volunteered with a humane society in high school (The Cat's Meow in PetSmart, Delran, NJ).

During my senior year at Smith College I fostered several cats and kittens with Dakin Humane Society in Springfield, MA (I just couldn't stay away!). The Summer after graduating I fostered for a small rescue in western MA known as Furever Homes for Felines...

During my senior year at Smith College I fostered several cats and kittens with Dakin Humane Society in Springfield, MA (I just couldn't stay away!). The Summer after graduating I fostered for a small rescue in western MA known as Furever Homes for Felines.

Later in 2020 I began work as a receptionist at Newbury Animal Hospital in Newbury, MA. I spent a year there and assisted technicians with routine procedures in addition to working the front desk. I also fostered for an affiliated cat rescue, Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society (MRFRS) - this is where my cat Yzma came from, she’s a foster fail.

I took a break to explore work as a science writer and paralegal in family and business immigration, but ultimately returned to catsitting in the Fall of 2023.

I was hired as a veterinary assistant at Red Lion Veterinary Hospital in New Castle, DE in late September 2024. I spent about half a year at Red Lion and have been strictly catsitting since April 2025.

I take in friendly strays that come to my house and foster them through a rescue called Pittie Party Rescue in North Brunswick Township, New Jersey.

Needless to say my home is cat-saturated, but I can't imagine a better way to work!

I am excited to provide the utmost care and affection for your pet - I take my responsibility with your cat(s) seriously and value all instructions and concerns, as well as feedback : )

Learn More About Emma

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

Cats are an essential part of my life - they make me happy! I enjoy getting to know their unique personalities. Growing up there was always at least one cat in my house. That being said, I have been volunteering with cats and fostering them since I was 7 years old, over 20 years now.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I have 3 cats - Reuben is a tabby who has asthma and few teeth, but he is living his best life! He loves to cuddle on the couch with me while I cross stitch and is a bird/squirrel watching enthusiast. He loves to chase fuzzy tinsel balls, springs, and the red dot. Prince Salami is a nebelung-looking long hair grey kitty. He’s super chatty and loves spending time in the mulch in the backyard in addition to delivering his toys as gifts. Yzma is a teeny fluffy grey cat - she loves catnip, sleeping near a warm vent, and zoning out. She is a little runty and struggles with hyperesthesia and taking baths so she gets haircuts in the summer time. She is Reuben’s #1 hater but she takes Prozac and tolerates him in exchange for lots of spoiling. She likes helping my partner play video games.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I provide virtual or in-person meet and greets and I am also happy to accept video instructions if preferred. I like to make sure that vet release forms and cat carriers are available in case of emergency. I review my process with the client, in that I like to send a photo when I first arrive for each reservation, and one at the conclusion, to detail visit timing. I provide a written update with the rest of the visit photos at the end of the visit. I like to ask questions to clarify any preferences about mail, trash, and key exchange.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

I treat every cat as if they are my own and I am incredibly careful about opening doors. I am also aware of unattended items that pets may eat. It is better to ask and be the wiser, in any unknown situation concerning pet safety, than to hope for the best. Medical history is important to me and after working at animal hospitals, it has become second nature to identify unusual pet behavior and possible health concerns. I always lock doors and follow security instructions for my clients' homes.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

It's important that your kitty feels safe with me! Timid cats need patience, and sometimes, they don't want your affection! I always let a nervous kitty approach me first, and I try not to pet anyone until I have offered my hand and they have given me the sniff of approval. If handling an anxious cat becomes necessary for any reason, I am trained in "fear free" care techniques and am equipped to keep your kitty as comfortable as possible.

Emma is amazing! One of my cats has asthma and is very scared of strangers, but Emma had no problem luring him out of his hiding spaces and giving him his inhaler. She took care of both of my boys like they were her own. I will absolutely have her watch them again the next time I'm away!

Emma is the best cat sitter we’ve ever had (and we’ve had our fair share of cat sitters over the past 10 years with 6 cats). Emma sent extremely detailed summaries of her visits with our cats along with a ton of pictures. One of our cats is diabetic and insulin dependent, and Emma administered his insulin injections perfectly.

Emma was truly an angel sent to us to watch our girls while we were away and I couldn’t be more grateful! We were going away for our wedding, and had a vet visit before we left where we learned that one of our girls had an intestinal mass requiring medications while we were away, and surgery when we returned. We were unbelievably stressed with this news and Emma brought us so much relief. She was willing to give all of the medications and did so with ease, followed all the directions closely, ensured our girl was eating her prescription food (even used her own tricks to do so), she gave our girls all the cuddles, and sent the best updates/photos. We also have a newer kitten who had to be isolated while we were away since we’re in the middle of the introduction process, and Emma spent equal time giving them both love. I would HIGHLY recommend Emma to anyone and will definitely book her for all future travel!

Honestly, not enough can be said about Emma. She is so thorough and caring and communicative. I’d trust her with my babies every single time. She sent plenty of pictures, was able to take one of them to the emergency vet when needed, and was a pro at giving him his meds. I truly appreciated everything she did for them while I was traveling. The peace of mind she provided simply cannot be quantified.

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Marcus Hook cat sitting rates will vary based on the sitter's experience and services, but the average price is $25.00. Prices depend on visit duration (20, 45, or 60 minutes) and whether you need drop-in visits or overnight stays.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
