Cat Sitting in Royal Oak, MI

As a cat owner myself, I understand how important it is to approach cats with patience and respect for their space. When I first enter the home, I do so calmly and speak in a soothing voice to avoid startling them. I usually call out with a friendly “pspsps” or another familiar sound to let them know I’m there.

If the cat is hiding, I don’t rush them. Instead, I give them time to come out on their own while I quietly go about cleaning the litter box, refreshing the water, and making sure their food is set. Once the basics are taken care of, I’ll try to locate the cat. If they’re still hiding, I gently check in without forcing interaction...

If the cat is hiding, I don’t rush them. Instead, I give them time to come out on their own while I quietly go about cleaning the litter box, refreshing the water, and making sure their food is set. Once the basics are taken care of, I’ll try to locate the cat. If they’re still hiding, I gently check in without forcing interaction. If they’re out and about, I crouch down to their level and let them sniff me before attempting to pet or play with them.

From there, I follow the cat’s lead, whether that means brushing, playing with toys, or simply sitting nearby so they can get used to my presence. I always aim to create a calm, familiar environment that helps them feel safe and cared for while their owner is away.

As a lifelong cat lover and experienced cat owner who understands the importance of routine, patience, and gentle care, I would be honored to care for your cats! Whether your kitty is shy or social, I’ll meet them where they’re at and make sure they feel safe, loved, and well cared for while you’re away. Expect pictures, updates, and a very content cat when you return!

Learn More About Allison

What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I’ve been around cats my whole life, my parents always had one in the house, so I grew up learning how to care for them from a young age. After college, I couldn’t wait to have a cat of my own. I now have a big, fluffy 8-year-old boy named Gio who rules the household! Over the past five years, I’ve regularly cat-sat for friends and family, whether for long weekends or extended trips. I’m comfortable with cats of all personalities and always focus on keeping their routines, comfort, and care consistent while their humans are away.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I love meeting cats in their own environment and getting to know their unique personalities. Cats are more selective than dogs, so I enjoy the challenge of figuring out what makes each one feel safe and happy, whether it’s quiet companionship, brushing, or playtime. I’ve never met a cat I didn’t like, and I’ve met a lot of them! I also take pride in leaving the home cleaner than I found it, so both the cat and their human feel comfortable and cared for.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

Yes, I have a eight-year-old medium-hair cat named Gio. I rescued him from the Michigan Animal Rescue League in Pontiac when he was just a kitten, and he’s been my fur baby ever since.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a cat sitter?

Take your time finding the right fit for you and your cat. Read sitter bios thoroughly, check reviews, and don’t hesitate to ask plenty of questions over the app or phone before deciding. Remember, your comfort and peace of mind are just as important as your cat’s care. If it doesn’t feel like a good fit, you can always choose another sitter. A great sitter will welcome your questions and provide confidence that all of your cat’s needs will be met.

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

Once a booking is confirmed, I encourage new cat parents to call or text me with any questions and to arrange a meet and greet. During this visit, I take time to go over expectations, have the owner walk me through daily routines, and learn about any special needs or quirks their cat may have. I know every cat has their own personality and preferences, so I make sure to understand those details to provide the best possible care.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

When entering a home, I do so slowly and carefully to ensure the cat isn’t near the door or at risk of escaping. I follow all instructions provided by the owner exactly as given to maintain consistency and safety. During visits, I scan the area for any potential hazards (such as small items that could be choking risks) and move them to a safe place. I always collect emergency contact and veterinary information beforehand so I can act quickly if something seems off. I provide daily updates and photos, and I am always open to FaceTime if extra reassurance is needed. When leaving, I double-check that the cat is safely away from the door and the home is secured before locking up.

What is your favorite cat toy?

My favorite cat toy is the classic wand with a feather at the end, it also happens to be my cat’s favorite. He loves when I flop it back and forth for him to chase, and it always brings out his playful side. I enjoy interactive toys like this because they let me bond with cats while also keeping them mentally and physically active.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

I use a gentle, soothing voice and enter quietly to avoid startling them. I never force interaction but always make sure I can visually confirm they are safe before I leave. I follow their routine exactly and give them space to approach me on their own terms. If a timid or anxious cat chooses to come near, I crouch down and let them sniff or observe me at their own pace, building trust slowly and respectfully.

Allison was amazing! Kind, thoughtful and reliable. She shared updates about our cat while we were away, stacked the mail nicely on our TV stand for when we got home and even offered to clean the area around the litter box that got a bit messy while we were gone. I felt confident from day 1 that Allison would be a great fit for our time away and I’m very grateful we had her as a resource. We’ll definitely be calling her again for our next trip. Highly recommend!

Allison is the best cat sitter we have ever had. She pays attention to details, takes extensive notes, and provides us with updates and pictures whenever she visits our home. We have 3 cats, and one of them, who is shy, always greets her whenever she stops by our home. Allison knows what she is doing with cats and how to make them feel at ease when we are not home. I would highly recommend Allison to anybody looking for a cat sitter since she understands the cat 'language'. THANK YOU, ALLISON, and we will definitely reach out to you again!!

Meowtel is a marketplace that connects cat parents with independent sitters. For eligible reservations booked and paid for through Meowtel, the Meowtel Promise explains how we support cat parents if something unexpected comes up.

If it doesn't feel like a purrfect fit after a Meet & Greet or during a reservation, our support team is here to help at 1-844-Meowtel (1-844-636-9835). We'll take time to understand what happened and help you consider next steps, which could include help with a new reservation.

Every cat sitter on Meowtel completes a background check. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet so you (and your kitties!) can feel comfortable with your sitter before you leave.

Cats are territorial animals and don't do well in new environments. The presence of other cats, dogs, and even birds in kennels or animal hotels cause an immense amount of stress. This is why Meowtel was created, so tailored in-home care is brought to you.

We recommend booking daily visits to keep your cats in their routine and help minimize feline anxiety while you're away.

Each visit typically includes: feeding, refreshing water bowls, litter box scooping, tidying up, medications, updates with photos, lots of playtime, and any special requests. Ask your sitter about a free Meet & Greet!
