What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

I love learning about the unique quirks of each cat I meet. For example, I’ve had a repeat cat customer in the past that does little somersaults onto her belly when she gets really excited about scritches.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

My eldest is 9 year old Salem, my second is 4 year old Sophia, and my youngest, Lilith, is just under 2 years. I think they may be some of the weirdest cats out there, but that makes me love them even more!

What is your typical process for working with a new cat parent?

I like having all the details right out of the gate, and will want to communicate with you quickly and consistently to determine what your needs are. Some of the questions I’ll have: - What is your cat’s personality, daily routine, boundaries, and triggers? - Do they prefer some playtime, or will they just want some cuddles? - Are they a social butterfly, or nervous around strangers? I’ll also want to know how much time you want me to spend with them, and how many visits per day. I work remotely, so have a lot of flexibility to follow your cat’s normal schedule.

How do you ensure the safety & security of the cats and the home while cat sitting?

Something I’ll want to know from the parents ahead of time is where their cat will likely be when I walk in - under the bed or AT the door? And from several years of pet care, I am now solidly in the habit of opening doors very slowly, staying hunched over to be able to hold someone back with my hands, and keeping eyes on anyone who might try to scurry out behind me.

Are you usually available during holidays?

Yes! I’m a homebody and don’t generally have any commitments over holidays, so would be happy to hang out with your cat!

What is your favorite cat toy?

I just got my cats a bunch of SpongeBob-themed toys that I just couldn’t resist! They have a crabby patty that they especially love to bunny kick.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

One of my cats is a bit “spicy” from her feral kitten days, and another is the most skittish cat I’ve met. I know from experience that slow movements, a soft voice, and respect for personal space goes a long way for extra shy or anxious cats. I will do my best to at least get a visual of your cat during my visit to ensure they’re okay, but beyond that, I can limit my visits to what will be the least stressful for your cat.
