What is your experience with cat sitting, and how long have you been doing it?

I’ve cat done cat sitting on and off for about 13+ years. I watched a lot of friends of family or friends cats/pets when they would travel for work or fun. I would administer any medication needed and typically pop in twice a day once in the morning and at night for feeding, treats, cuddles and a play session.

What do you enjoy most about cat sitting?

What I enjoy most about cat sitting is getting to meet new cats and discovering their unique personalities. Every cat is different, and I love taking the time to earn their trust, learn what makes them happy, and care for them in a way that makes them feel safe and comfortable. Being able to provide loving, attentive care while their families are away is incredibly rewarding, and I truly enjoy spending time with animals and making sure they feel cared for.

Do you have kitties yourself? What are their names?

I’m lucky enough to be ruled by four fabulous Maine Coon cats, each with their own big personality! I also have what I call 1 standard issued cat, Gus name is Lynk! He has diabetes but hasn’t lost the spunk. Perseus is my 7-month-old European Maine Coon kitten — an all-white cuddle bug who believes personal space is optional and snuggles are mandatory. Then there are the 2-year-old brothers, Drago and Balrog. Balrog is orange, spunky, and always ready for playtime, usually convincing his brothers to join in the chaos. Drago is a giant 25-lb sweetheart who loves toys, attention, and following me around the house like my fluffy little bodyguard. And finally, there’s Nosfuratu, my majestic 27-lb all-blue boy. He’s a professional lounger whose favorite hobbies include cuddling, drooling happily, and napping like it’s a full-time job.

How do you handle cats that are particularly timid or anxious?

When caring for timid or anxious cats, I always let them set the pace. I move slowly, keep my voice calm and gentle, and avoid direct eye contact so they don’t feel overwhelmed. I’ll sit or lower myself to their level and extend my hand slightly off to the side, allowing them to approach and sniff me first if they choose. This helps build trust while giving them control of the interaction and helps them feel safe in their own space. I never force contact and always respect a cat’s boundaries and comfort zones. Instead, I focus on maintaining their routine, providing quiet companionship, and creating a calm, predictable environment. With years of experience caring for cats of all personalities, I understand that patience and consistency are key — my goal is always to help every cat feel secure, relaxed, and cared for while their family is away
